Mahoning / Overheating issue/question
« on: March 15, 2021, 10:05:14 AM »
My OW Furnace appeared to be overheating so I took a closer look. Noticed my T&P valve stuck open (defective?) and water a little more than trickling out. The water temperature is within the normal temperature limits and just wanted to get some feedback? I believe it  is just a T&P valve replacement? Can anything else cause the issue I am seeing or does it look like a T&P valve replacement? Thanks!

After some further investigation it appears the pressure valve is releasing at a lower temp (150 - 175 degrees F). I will replace the valve.

I ran a new thermostat wire out to furnace to control the circulating pump when called for heat. Last year I had circulating pump running all the time because the thermostat wire was broke, Anyways cannot remember how to hook up the thermostat wire and the circulating pump to the switch in the attached picture.  Assume the item in the picture is a relay?

Equipment / Husky 21 ton log splitter
« on: September 16, 2019, 05:02:54 PM »
Engine seized a year ago and plan to swap out the engine. I plan to use a Harbor Freight - Predator 5.5 HP vertical shaft. Is there anything special about a log splitter engine that I need to know? Is there anything different about a splitter engine and a lawnmower engine?

Mahoning / Solenoid controlled damper for the blower
« on: October 04, 2018, 06:30:13 AM »
My blower failed and have a new replacement Dayton Blower but do not have a damper. My options are to grind off the old damper and have it welded on to new blower. Are the other non welding options?  See typical blower with damper for Mahoning OWF

Electronics / Dayton Blower
« on: July 13, 2018, 10:15:36 AM »
It is that time of year to overhaul/fix items on the OWF. I have a Model 200 Mahoning OWF and have had it for at least 10-12 years. I have replaced various items over the years but have yet to replace the blower because it has worked up until this past winter. No problem I ordered the blower (Dayton Blower) and was ready to install but the damper/flapper is welded to the old blower and not easy to remove. Is there an easy way to remove the damper housing and install on my new motor or is the a damper I can buy that will attach to my new blower? Looking for a way ahead and know you guys have it. Thanks ahead of time!

Electronics / Wiring my OWF
« on: October 27, 2016, 10:52:07 AM »
I am a first time poster but a veteran wood furnace user - I have had/used my OWF for approximately 10 seasons and originally I had a HVAC Tech hook up my OWF to my forced air oil burning furnace. The tech hooked up the thermostat to the OWF to kick the circulating pump on and simultaneously turn my fan/blower on (from the oil furnace) to circulate the heat throughout the house. Last year I had a problem with my oil furnace controller. The oil furnace tech (different than the one that originally hooked up) replaced the controller and hooked the oil furnace back up. All good but could only run OWF manually by turning the oil furnace blower on and jumpering my OWF circulating pump to run.  I called the oil furnace tech and said that they need to hook up the way it was hooked up before so I could run my OWF automatically. They told me they could not (mentioned something about laws/regulations) and anyways that is a completely different story. So how do I hook up my OWF to work automatically like before?

Mahoning / Gaskets-Rust Inhibitor-basic maintenance stuff
« on: August 06, 2013, 05:56:29 AM »
I have a Model 200 and have been using it for the past 7-8 years. I have had to replace a pump and door gaskets and try to add rust inhibitor at least once a year. This time of year is the time to perform all of the maintenance and my question to all is where is a good place to purchase such things like door gaskets and rust inhibitor? In the past I have always talked to the Mahoning Representative that covers my area.
