General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Thermostat by-pass valve ???

Mine got to acting up and not enough heated water was getting to the heat exchanger, so mine was removed.  Now everything works a lot better, a lot more heat coming through.

All I do is shovel all the ashes out and scrape all the creosote the best I can and have no problems for 12 years or so.  I don't think it's that important to clean it spotless clean.

Let mine go out today.  I'll use the monitor when it gets too cool in the house.  Been cutting wood for next winter though.

I know the feeling of when I toss a stick a little to hard and it hits the back of the firebox, I think it's a sickening  sound for sure.  I don't think hit hurts once in a while.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Heat exchangers
« on: February 21, 2015, 06:19:39 PM »
Hope everyone's staying warm in this frigid weather.  I was just wondering if my heat exchanger is too small for zero degrees weather as it's a 125,000 btu heat exchanger.  It keeps up nicely in normal winter weather, but struggles in zero weather and the wind is blowing.  Any ideas?  My boiler is Global  Hydronics GL 2000 with 300 gallon water capacity.  I sure I have plenty of stove for heating 2000 square feet.

I purchased a Global Hydronics boiler about 12 years ago and I am very pleased with it.  I would probably go with a Heatmaster if I ever had to purchase another one.  Does anyone know what happened to the Global Hydronics boilers as I think they are out of business?

I have had a Global Hydronics stove for almost 12 years with no major problems.  I think they are about the same as Hawken, stainless steel, 300 gallon capacity.  I load it twice a day not even half full and it heats about 2000 sq. feet house.  Been very happy with mine.

I think I pinched a nerve in my back running to my legs and as a result, pain down my legs.  To make a long story short, I had back surgery the first part of May.  I have recovered nicely now, but am still concerned about the heavy work involved in keeping the wood boiler going this winter.  I don't think I'll ever try lifting the 100 pounders again to load the stove.  I'm still going to try to keep going, but with a lot more common sense.  At one time I thought my back was indestructible, but I guess that was not the case.  So everyone enjoy your stoves, chain saws, pickup trucks, but please be careful.

Hello Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has had any back problems and how it has affected your cutting wood and loading your stove?

I'm still cutting blown over locust trees from hurricane Hugo.  I've already got enough for next winter stacked up, but will still add to it within the next coming weeks.

I probably run it through April, then shut it down for the summer.  I really enjoy all the $60.00 electric bills.

Hello, I'm new to the forum, but have been reading posts for awhile now.  I guess my outdoor woodboiler is about 14 years old and really no problems to report.  It is a Global Hydronics GH-2000.  Just sort of worried about the EPA's stance on wood burning.
