Could lose power can you help with this question PLEASE
« on: February 24, 2016, 07:37:17 AM »

ok we are starting to get some bad weather that could bring down power lines. I dont have a backup generator. I am afraid if we do lose power my boiler will overheat. Am I correct in thinking this? If so how can I prevent this?
Thanks in advance

Don't put much wood in if its not too late. May need to take out wood if power is out and if you are home to do so. Can't overheat if it has no fuel. Hope your power comes back on soon, we are expecting freezing rain here also.

Thanks for the info; I took some pieces out and it did OK. I spoke with Brian at P&M he suggested to cover the stack if it was drawing, which I did just to be safe. This wont happen again, our power was out for just under 12 hours, I bought a generator I hated to do that and spend that money but its better to have heat and a healthy boiler I guess  :)

If your OWB is lower than your heat exchanger, you might pick up some convection heat but I would agree that a generator is the best answer. Power your circ pumps, fans, fridges, water pump, computer and tv.
