I welded a threaded rod across the bottom of the flap letting it stick out on each side about an inch or so and threaded a couple nuts on each end. if I needed more which I didn't I could just thread a couple more nuts on it.

check with your local zoning dept.more and more places are putting regulations in place. For example where i live in NE ohio you have to have a min.of 5 acres of land and it has tobe placed in a back section of the lot x number of feet from property lines and such.

Im gonna have to buy my wood this year...Ive been picking up so many extra jobs doing construction i havent had time to split any. On the bright side I dont work as hard at earning the extra cash as I do cutting and splitting wood so it should be ok.

Soooo..ive have first year under my belt heating house hot water and garage...when I put in the system I ran pex to the pool to heat that also but im a bit concerned when I see posts about 3 way valves and aquastats and what not... is there a way to just run it similar to how I heat everthing else ? does it have to be so complicated?

I havent used any natural gas since oct and they charge me $25.00 just in case I do...I just havent had the nerve yet to have them disconnect it. its my first year burning.

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / draft door stuck open
« on: March 04, 2014, 05:32:34 PM »
So the other day I come find my stove boiled over....sees the flap stuck open..was concerned because the stove was just put in service in late oct. 2013....so looked at the selonoid and it was free of rust and has been oiled a couple times since I started. Contacted Graig at Ridgewood and he said some of the stoves have done that and he felt the door needed a little more weight. They are working on a fix that will most likely  be a small plate you bolt to the door.

I went ahead and welded a small piece of threaded rod to the bottom of the door and it has been fine since then. My thought was if it needed more I could just thread on a couple of nuts to get the weight right.  Craig even sent me another batch of water treatment since I lost about half my water....any way not putting down the stove just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who might have same issue. You should always have a spare selonoid on hand because they can go bad but in this case it wasnt.

yeah dont put it inside...I did and will be putting outside next year. Heres why...yes you do get residual heat and loading inside sounds nice when its cold out but I still have to go outside to bring the wood in..I stack about 5 days worth inside. beside the fact that it takes up alot of space the garage gts smokey when filling and there is a covering of soot on everthing in the garage... not to mention the sparks flying around it makes me nervous. keep it outside.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: hot water tank size
« on: February 18, 2014, 03:47:18 PM »
I've noticed a bit of a difference in my hot water when my stove is 185 in the colder days rather than the 170 I run in the milder days.  HOWEVER, it's still sufficiently hot for any hot water usage.  I'm running a 20 plate before my hot water tank with no mixing valve.  I assume your 160 is your low set point?  The coolest I run my stove is 170 with a 10 degree swing.  So, 160 is as cool as it gets.

Im runing 172-180 but sometimes it drops below that while the stove  is catching up. I was thinking it woud be more like an on demand hot water tank if the volume was smaller in the hot water tank.  I guess if we used more hot water it wouldnt be an  issue and actually it isnt but was looking for more consistancy if tht make any sense.
