What temp do you run your boiler at?
« on: June 01, 2008, 03:44:20 PM »

My Central Boiler came from the factory set at 185.  I am going to run it all summer and have turned it down to 175 today.  Is there any disadvantage to running lower temps?  Will it cause significantly more creosote?

Thanks

When it is cold, it is on at 1654 off at 180.  Bump it up a bit one the EXTREME days.  Drop it down to 140 or so when it is mild such as fall and spring.  Don't run it iin the summer.

20-40 outside temp with 10mph wind or less - on 140 off 150
20-40 outside temp with 11mph + winds - on 150 off 160
0-20 outside temp with 10mph wind or less - on 150 off 160
0-20 outside temp with 11mph + winds - on 170 off 180

I talked to a rep at Central Boiler and he told me to always keep it at 165 or above.  I have the large cast iron radiators so I can heat my house for most of the winter at 165-170.  When it gets really cold I'll bump it up to 185 but this year it's only been there for a couple of days.  I do know that the hotter the inside of your furnace the better draft you'll get, so you'll get a more efficient burn at the higher temps.
