Haven't checked site in a while, but Im still on the cone kick! Got a friend who might be able to get me a hydraulic auger set up. So been holding off on buying cone till I get that. Also recently added mini excavator  to toy box ,has extra plummed hyd and quick coupler so will be a easy build. With temps over a 100 yesterday who wants to think about wood.

I put one together with a stickler cone and hydraulic wheel motor. I am disappointing with the way it works. Luckily I made it for the skid steer and not for the RTV.
The hydraulic motor should be putting out about 32 hp and it gets stuck fairly easily. I was only able to split short wood with it too or it gets stuck. I have an oak log that is maybe 36" in diameter and probably only 4' long. It couldn't even peel a small chunk off the side without getting stuck.
It is possible that the hydraulic motor is warn out and not putting out that much HP any more but the wheel adapter for it is way too weak. I had to be really careful to not completely destroy it and only split a small pile of wood. I bent it several times and had a good 3"+ wobble in it.
I am going to have to almost completely redo it with the cone from Guru if I want it to split much wood.
Not sure yet if it will be worth the work or just start making a regular splitter.

Rsi, do you have any type of gearbox in between hyd motor and cone . If not ,you most  likely won't ever see peak hp of motor. You will have to gear it some how.

I sized the motor to the speed I wanted. Isn't that pretty much the same difference as gearing it down?

RSI ,what are you powering the motor with? Most skidsters with extra hydraulics are any where from 15 to 20 gpm.

It is a Gehl Skid Steer. I believe it is about 17GPM and 2750 PSI.
I calculated the motor to be about 18 CU IN.

i was reading on line and it said you cannot put the squealer on a bobcat auger attachment, they said the gear on the auger is not strong enough to turn it and it will stop,  anybody here of this, if this is true i am back to square one.

Are you wanting to use it on a post hole digger? If so, what RPM does it run?

I believe the cone will fit the skid loader auger shaft too. It uses a standard size auger shaft doesn't it?. If so, I think a couple hundred bucks and you're in.
