Heatmor / Re: Something to add about heatmor 200 css 1996 model

I have had the water boiling in the door since mid last year.  I took the shield out after it started making the noise and it made no difference.  It is so much easier to load without it I haven't put it back in yet.

Ya your missing out on burning your hand has you load it without gloves . :) Only did it once and it left a impression ya never again :)
On my old 1996 model if the heat shields removed you end up with flames shooting at you when you load it when stoking the fire .
with mine shields a must . Still end up with burned eye brows sometimes . Its the smell thats the worse :) oo and keep oily gloves out of the fire box also . Last tip  carhartt lining isn't fire resistant .

Hey Heat my HS1 is a Heatmor knockoff, that tip on the semi heater hoses is a good one, I change mine every year now because of past failures, I always wonder what would be better, will be trying that next year for sure. Do you ever hear boiling water in the door? It takes a few tries to get it right to cut the hoses just the right length so it allows the door to swing all the way and yet doesn't pinch with the door shut, thought of maybe getting a 45 elbow on the tank side especially for the bottom one. Since you brought this up you must have had yours leak before also?
Had mine since 04 and also really like my stove.

Hose routing pic . As you can see my Heatmor Has seen alot of wood burning action :)

I got my 200 in 06.  Hopefully it lasts as long.  I just replaced the fan last year and have changed the heater hoses at least every other year or when you can hear the nylon 'crunch' when you pinch them - the last three years.  I like the idea of a better hose also - how long do the heavy truck hoses last you?

I also have had a boiling water problem in the door - started last year.  Before that it was just a light thumping.  It is kind of violent hammering now as the steam escapes back into the main body.  I have tried flushing the door, but all clean and thought it was better last spring after replacing the fan, but still doing it this fall.  I did also replace the circulator pump last spring.

Check your water level . Or build up on inlet and outlet on tank in front  . Or water temp is to high.  Maybe call dealer he have a better idea on the newer style heatmors.

Yes I do hear a small bubbling only when its at 170f +. Its started that after I added the 3 zone so I was thinking it was just water flow issue as I have one zone with taco 011 and 2 others with the taco 007  so I might be getting 30 gallons per min with the 3 zones . Cant say for sure . As that would mean all water is being cycled every 4 mins hard to believe . I always kept the fire sheild in place as the door would just get hotter was my thinking . and so far sence 1996 I changed my hoses 4 times . it was the 4th time I'm using the blue semi hose . I always used best hose napa store had . first 2 time I changed because hose was hard . 3rd time was bad I loaded the stove looked down and seen the spray :)  quick clamped it off ( oo by the way keep a set of vise grips by stove at all times and dont use them for anything else only for heatmor this should of been in heatmor Manuel I think thats why that top shelf is there :)  )  What made this bad it was -20 f when it did this . This lead me to the semi hose idea . Dealer says every 3 years Im thinking the blue semi hose will go 5 years well see . I will see if the hose gets hard before then . I run my stove 170f to 180f max at top of stove at this temp I can hear a sizzling of the tank water bit like a simmering water kettle . Its always done it . I will look at my hoses tomorrow and get a picture for ya .

Fire Wood / Re: TYPE of CHAIN SAWS USED
« on: November 08, 2013, 02:19:05 AM »
Was just wondering what type of saws do you guys use? The 031AV I use has a 18" bar and was given to me by my dad two years ago when I bought my OWB. I would like to get a new Farm Boss next year and keep the 031AV as a back up!

Husqavarna  rule  I have a 1981 model 77 (24 inch 18 inch ). Just bought new 2007 353 Heated grips and carb (18 inch ) 6 years ago .  Also have a 1983  44 ( 16 inch ).  Burn 10+ cord a year sense 1981 .  Why buy a saw every 5 years .  I cut all Oak .
Post years of saws used will tell the real story Thats just my opinion.

Heatmor / Something to add about heatmor 200 css 1996 model

Its all about install like every brand . I have 3 zones heating 5500 square feet with average insulation in 2 houses and shop and garage . It heats everything about 12 cord last year all wet oak .  Now Its also about how you burn it . I go all year and never clean chimney never have to its always clean .  I keep firebox clean don't let ashes build up . Keep good seal where all gaskets are and your good to go . I cleaned out fire box last year and added more sand as some gets scraped out when cleaning and fire box burned all them years and all steel in fire box looked like new yet . All I know in 1996 Heatmor built one awesome stove :) I'm running hot water lines 275 feet total in the ground also heavy clay in a woods .  Thats my Heatmor review . One last point use semi heater hose on door (blue). Its well worth the $40 bucks ;)

Plumbing / Re: thermopex or logstor
« on: September 04, 2012, 05:57:59 PM »
I got to look at both on a roll today thermopex and logstor. First off the thermopex is a hard shell plastic . logstore is more of a rubber flex style outside coating. And the logstor inside pipes are just a bit bigger. Both look like a bugger to bend around to get them where you want them very stiff. Im thinking the rubber more flex outside is a plus less chance of water leak lets put it this way forgiving. Thermopex stated in there ad about lines not being on center in other brands well whos going to cut both lines the long way to check . And besides keeping water out is number one insulation is number 2 . I'm leaning for the logstor even though its 1 dollar more a foot . Question is over time what going to brake down faster in the ground rubberized plastic or hard shell plastic . When I did my first install with foam boxes and black drain pipe only ran one year and the black drain pipe was all cracked and brittle and the heat broke it all down . whos to say what either of these outside coatings are going to act like when subjected to 180f to a stove shut down -10f .

So the pex tubing is thicker on the logstor then the thermopex ?  My first 2 zones are pex with aluminum . The 3rd Zone witch i'm adding only has to run 60 ft . I'm Thinking logstor might be my choice . Thanks for the replys . Going to look at the thermopex next week. I seen the logstor at our statefair.

Plumbing / thermopex or logstor
« on: August 31, 2012, 10:16:33 PM »
I'm new to the forum . But I have had a Heatmor 200css sense 1996 . I have 220 feet of under ground line 2 zones   pex al with sprayed in close cell foam. I have used 10 cords of oak every year and thats wet oak fresh off the semi :) and yes If it was dry I would say I would only burn 7-8 cord . lol  Now I'm adding a 3rd zone . and looking at either logstor or thermopex . I have ruled out inso seal as my ground is heavy clay and flat and in a woods so you dig a hole you just made a spring pond . I can't have any risk of water touching lines . small crack in sewer pipe or plastic means cutting to much wood . All products have there placed to be used . I also have to go under my driveway with this 3rd zone . My question is Logstor or thermopex . I dont know anyone local that has used either one installed .With this 3rd zone I will be heating 3500 square feet to 70f and 2000 square feet to 50f All is very well insulated . So it will be at max for my heatmor 200css. Might just break the 10 cord a year for sure .  This looks like a great forum. wish it was here in 1996 would of stopped me from trying the foam box and plastic idea ( yes I been there and did that ) nothing like cutting 220 feet of foam and making a box and finding out the next year it has to be riped out and $1000 of close cell foam sprayed in . Live and learn .. any info would be great . I'm in MN
