Plumbing Log Splitter

Getting ready to hose up "The Hedge Hawg" and wondering what you guys have used for thread sealant on the NPT fittings? I was advised by a hydro guy to use Loctite 569 but will have to order it as I can't find it locally.

LoctiteŽ 5452TM... Never use pipe dope or pipe tape on hydraulic hoses..

Couldn't even find 5452 on Loctites website....

Care to elaborate on why to never use pipe dope or tape on hydraulic fittings?

I do know what ever you use for a sealant make sure it's one that remains pliable, one that hardens can practically weld the fittings together.

If any of the tape and or dope goes into the hose end during install it will cause damage or failure to the parts.. It's not that you can't use it but if your not careful your screwed in the end

Ayuh,....    I've been usin' plain ole plumber's teflon pipe dope on hydraulics for decades, without issues,....

The picture on that page has me laughin',.....

In the 1st picture, they're puttin' the dope on a jic flare fittin', which needs, nor wants any sorta dope on it,..... ::)

I have also used teflon tape and gasoila on hydraulic fittings. I am always careful to keep the tape or the dope away from the end. I think the concern is that the tape or the dope will enter the hydraulic system and plug stuff up.

Ditto here, prefer tape on hydraulic fittings, keep the stuff away from the end is all.

I've used a few pipe dopes that eventually hardened and ended up destroying the fittings getting them apart.

Like I said ! It can be used but for some that are not accustomed to using plumbers tape or pipe dope it is recommended u don't use it . It will cause damage to your hydraulic system if not careful.. It's a User Beware type of thing
