I am using a shaver now, and debating what I will do when it is time to get another one.   Would I even bother to do it or not.  I am so frustrated with shaver, their customer service is the worst  - worse than you can possibly imagine.  How long did you have your shaver and why did you go with this 4400?

Greg,

Thanks for your offer to help.  I have called my dealer again......and Randy again.......and I've talked to the President of the company and his secretary Melba.

Still no lid.  I realize it is not your problem. but I will give them some more time before I call you.

this is so frustrating,  A company that will not back up what they sell.  My advice to anyone looking to buy an Outdoor Wood burner is although Shaver may have a good price, price isn't everything.  they are absolutely terrible as far as customer service is concerned.

I have a Shaver - - - and they are a very poor company to deal with.  Not sure what I would go with next to do it all over again.  Probably a Portage and Maine though from what I have read

No,  I knew nothing of caulking it shut.  I did call the guy I bought it from .....he said he cannot give me any help with my Shaver wood burner because of the restrictions in place in Pennsylvania........He gave me the number of a Randy who would be able to help me,   I guess Randy coordinates parts for Shaver,  a middle man....Well he gave me them number for Shaver, A Direct Number, and advised me they would be hard to get a hold of.

He was right I have made 3 calls now and left 3 messages.......No response....

Do you think I am getting the run - around?  All I need is a lid for a 290.....

General Discussion / Sequoia Out Door Wood Boiler
« on: December 31, 2014, 03:46:27 PM »
A friend of mine stopped up today and we began talking about our wood burners...He has a Sequoia Outdoor Wood Burner - the gasification model.....He says he has to fix his fire every other day.  Sometimes when it is cold he will fix it once a day.......I have a Shaver and I am fixing it 3 times a day........

Makes me wonder, If I should have paid the extra money up front..... Now I should say that I am heating 2 houses, one garage and both of our hot water systems, but that really has me wondering??????

I have a Shaver 290 - When I was adding my chemicals I discovered the lid in the back to be rusted..........The clips that hold it in place are bad.  Just wondering if I will need to order a new one or should I improvise.   I currently have a piece of week over the opening because I am getting way too much steaming and condensation.

Thanks,

I guess I don't have an auto damper.  I am thinking that I should buy one before I do anything.  I see on your other post you recommend the Ranco AQ007.  I have a stock blower that comes with the shaver and I guess I am leaning to the $100 adapter they have online at Alternative Heat Supplies.

I use the stock blower and over the past few years I have run with the fan 60% closed I would say.   I thought that would be helpful in burning less wood.  This year I am running probably 60% open on the fan and I've noticed the wood burning better.   I guess that's why I was leaning to the fire box alteration.  We've also tried placing the wood to one side or the other.....banking it up and it gives us a longer burn time.

In the past I have had some issues with creosote  in the chimney, but that may be more related to the wood I was burning more than the air flow.  But I will say that burning the amount of wood I do I seldom have all seasoned wood.  I just don't have a big enough wood shed.......I get it full by November and usually burn the majority of it through the winter.

Thanks for you help though,  I appreciate it.  Nice to get different views especially from someone who works in the industry.

Closer to 20 cords of wood per year.......My son's house, hot water, and garage - he put in a heated garage floor 2 years ago.  My house and hot water.  It just seems like all the wood laying over the grates are burned up while the wood not on the grates are left......I have two sets of grates in the 290,   I am sure one set of grates would suffice........I think I will look for some steel and experiment.

thanks for the reply, coach

Shaver Furnace / Shaver Fire Box

I have used my Shaver 290 now for about 5 years.  It heats both my son's and my house in Western PA.  I go through a lot of wood.  So here is my question:  I have two sets of grates in the furnace.  I am thinking about covering one of the sets of grates to restrict the air flow........I think with only one set of grates towards the front the wood would last longer and would still be amble air flow for the furnace.  Has anyone tried this yet?   Just curious.......
thanks, in advance

I'm not sure what is going on with your wood burner, I can tell you I have a 290 Shaver and it heats my son's house and mine ... Two houses plus our domestic hot water , and has been doing so since 2008/.  We have saved a lot of money...........Hope you get it figured out.....It's really not that bad of a stove.

I've done that, what happens is I get flames shooting out the door.....not up the chimney.  With a Shaver they have a Chimney that is low, with the door open for any length of time I will burn off the tin before I would remove the creosote.     Thanks for you comment though.

I have to clean my chimney from time to time. . . . . .does anyone have any tips on how to keep it clean on a regular basis?  I have a 290 shaver, It works great but I think the wood I am using this year is not as seasoned as it should be and that is leaving more creosote in the chimney....
thanks

I've heated our 16 x 32 in ground pool for 2 years.  It really knocks the boiler temperature water down
for the first couple of days but once the water in the pool is warmed (85 - 90 degrees) I can maintain the pool temperature by running the pool pump only 12 ours a day.  The kids say we have the biggest hot tub in town......but my wife really likes it.
