General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / meat Thermometer / oregon scientifc
« on: October 31, 2015, 12:05:02 AM »
I have read some posts about the meat thermometer and I did buy one but it seems to work only for a "timed" period. I have to go out to the transmitter to restart it and then watch the receiver for the temp. It shuts off until restarted. To what advantage is this.  Or...did I miss something in the owners manual?

Equipment / Fire/ash rake
« on: November 30, 2013, 05:46:25 AM »
Anybody know where I can find an all metal ash rake online? I did a search with different phrases but they all have wooden handles. The one we have at work was not home made, a two piece one inch pipe with about 10 inch tines and 6 feet long. We have had it since 2003 but my boss can't remember where it came from. The one I need for home could be 5 foot for my use.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / The power of this site
« on: November 16, 2013, 06:33:35 PM »
This is just a kind word of THANK YOU to all who post regularly on this site. I am only one week into this site and I already feel like I have been here for awhile. My questions are taken seriously and there is someone out there to help. I hope that once I get up and running with no problems I can help someone else in the future. I am a first time home OWB owner but I am not a stranger OWB usage. For the past 10 years I have operated a pallet burner sized Central Boiler at work. The fire box measures 72"x66"x54". It is almost fun to go to work in the winter and open those double doors to warmth at 5 am when it is ten below zero. Anyway, Thanks to all who have helped.

Electronics / Thermostat/blower/need heat?!
« on: November 15, 2013, 04:58:38 PM »
Ok,I have read all the posts and tried all the combinations trying to hook up a 2nd thermostat but I can't seem to get it to work. I have one heat exchanger in my what seems to be simple oil furnace with forced air. Lets say now I just want to bypass the oil backup and use the blower alone. I can run a seperate power from basement to thermostat area or whatever is needed. How do I hookup this blower. I noticed posts mention line voltage thermostats. Is that what I need? Any help?

Plumbing / Supply and return
« on: November 09, 2013, 08:42:48 AM »
Ok maybe I got some bad advice locally. I just have one question,it may be simple but I honestly don't know the answer. On the back of the wood boiler, which valve is for supply and which is for return.? One pipe is at the bottom of the tank and one is half way up. I live in a rural area and people don't seem to know as much as the great people on this site.

Plumbing / Installing bleeder valve.
« on: November 06, 2013, 12:48:53 PM »
This is my first attempt at installing supply and return lines. My pump is in the basement about half way between OWF and heat exchanger.Where should I put a valve in case I need to bleed air from the system? Total distance is about 50 feet. Also, after I suspended my heat exchanger above the oil furnace on the "after blower" side I have a stronger than normal fuel oil smell when the furnace kicks in. I know this will not be there after I shut down the oil furnace and fire up the OWF but am I restricting normal flow in some way?
