Just ordered my Fiskars x27 splitting axe
« on: February 22, 2012, 07:52:55 PM »

I have a small fiskars hatchet that I love.  So decided to order the x27.  Good to have laying by the wood shed and if I really get ambitious I may use it to split most of my wood.

I had a friend helping me cut wood last year and when we were in red oak 24" diameter, he could split it with a regular maul into 6-8 pieces before I got the next piece cut off with a 038 magnum lol.  Wish he was always up for splittin wood

I love mine! Sears only had the pro splitter which I think the only difference between that and the x27 is the handle length.  I think I will buy the x27 some time this year though.  I really like it so far and they are really light!

I ordered mine on amazon, 49 dollars.  Hoping it will be here tomorrow, have a big white pine down that I'd like to split up.

I ordered mine from Amazon last fall and it was $45.01
I was kind of disappointed with it because the way everyone talks about them I figured I could just sit and watch it do all the work by itself.  :o
It does split good though. lol

Splits a little better than the maul did that I was using. It was a Craftsman 6 or 8 pounder I was using.
It doesn't tire me out like the maul did though. I can keep going way longer.

They sure get rave reviews, hope I'm not disappointed

There are a few videos on YouTube of people using them.  I was splitting 2 ft diameter locust in two swings the other day.  Gotta keep it sharp though

Does all the wood still have to be dry for the fiskars x27 to even stand a chance?

16" splits seem to be OK, longer lengths, 20" plus seem more an issue, especially if they are wet/hard etc. Then you get the odd piece which seems a real problem no matter what.

It should beat a maul in all situations based on what I've read

I saw them at Farm & Fleet after I bought mine. I think it was around $45.
