General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: I started my OWB last night..
« on: October 06, 2012, 07:25:02 PM »
:thumbup:I just fired mine today, I used the propane furnace for a couple of hours tops, and then decided wood heat is almost free, what in the heck am I doing, fire it up. I also turned up the stat to 73. All of you cold people need to know how warm you could be if you would just fire your OWB.

I have done baked potatos in mine, and by double wrapping in foil, I do not see any problems other than when you burry them in the hot ash, you have a terrible time finding them when you go back in to get them. Also if you prick them with a fork to check for doneness, it pokes the foil into the potato and its a pain in the ash to get the potato cleaned from the foil, but they do cook fast.

Hey new owner, thanks for keeping this site going, it has helped me alot. Do what you think you have to do, and if it does not work, change it back, but I would get everyone on here on board, so you can keep some contact with them. Good Luck and  Thanks.

Central Boiler / Re: Temps at 206 degrees
« on: February 20, 2012, 09:31:33 PM »
Thanks scott7m, thats what I did. I used 3 in 1 oil, and boy did things smoke as the oil ran all over the very hot damper door. Here's a Warning to anyone having this problem. Do not manually open your damper door after this has happened, even if the temp. read 184 degrees. I did and a flash of flames and heat chased my butt to the ground. I'm guessing trapped gasses that wanted out, much like when you go to fill the stove minutes after the solenoid has closed, only a little more intence since it was all trying to come out of that small door. Now that the smell of hair is gone, all is good, I hope

Well thank you all for the help. I checked all of your ideas, but came up with nothing, then a week and a half later,  my wife told me she thought the stove was catching fire, I ran out to check it and it was steaming big time and at 211 degrees. I looked below the door and I could see a flame through the damper door opening, but the solenoid was not energized. I hit the outside of the filling door and the damper door closed. I now know where my water has been going, and alot of my wood but I am not sure why. I turned the heat up in the house, the patio enclosure and the pole barn to try to bring the temps. down fast, and now we are sweating. I will put some oil on the solenoid and pivot points as soon as it cools down :bash: :bash: but I am confused because it only happens every now and then. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, I am not sure how many times this has happen or how hot it has got, but I am wondering if the high temps. may have/or can cause any problems I need to be aware of. Thanks in advance for your help.

Central Boiler / Temps at 206 degrees

I have witnessed my 5036 with temps. around 205 + or - 3 times now and my water level is down. The 3 times have been over a 2 month period. I never catch it when it is going past the 185 cut off, but it happens, and you can hear the water sizzling. Any ideas???

Central Boiler / Not getting enough heat
« on: October 29, 2011, 09:53:26 AM »
My water to air exchanger is at 175 degrees with the furnace blower off, but when the stat calls for heat and the blower comes on, the return side of the exchanger drops to about 125 degrees or less and the blower runs for hours  trying to satisfy the t-stat. does anyone know what my problem is? Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I found my problem, and I forgot to mention that I also had a aux. unit in my florida room, which was my restriction. The line size in that coil is probably 3/8" and it was slowing my flow. It gave off great heat though. Is there another way that I can connect it that will not restrict the furnace flow, like maybe a t's in both lines?

Equipment / Re: wood splitter info wanted
« on: February 26, 2011, 07:09:10 AM »
I have the $999.00 model from TSC, 2nd year. It has split everything I have put to it including large trunks with big knots, and my Dad's finger when he forgot to move it.(it healed 10 months later, kinda) This cheaper model only has a 6.5 briggs on it, but plenty of power. I only run it at 1/2 throttle to keep the noise down, it works a little slower that way, so I kinda get a break while working, and it's great on fuel. If you can build 1 cheaper & have the time to wait for your finished product, GO FOR IT, I love to save $ when I can, but I needed 1 much quicker than I could build 1.

I have 1 & love it. It is the 1 you see by the road for $695.00
I bought mine from a hardware store & put it up myself. If you go this route, GET SOME HELP, as it was a bit heavy to lift the metal trusses. I added metal sides to match my polebarn, and later added an 16' overhead door & a 24" man door. I keep my 16' trailer, sometimes loaded full of firewood in there and still have room for alot more. I have had over 20" of snow on it without a problem. I think these buildings are the greatest thing since sliced bread.
