JDFarmer, just started to burn only coal today. Like the ideal to put coal down the center and small amount of wood on the sides. Guess Ill see how that works.

justinb, guessing that soft wood you might cut to fan back to keep from burning as fast. Lot of discussion on fan speed. I know guys running at 40%  and 100%. Im at 100% and have had it at 50 to 70 % at times I have a 5000E . It seems to depend on how good the wood is. Green, dry, oak, Etc. I just started to burning coal going to see how it goes for a few days.

JD,
Do you mix wood and coal by shoveling in coal on the wood.

Any input on what kind of burns you get with  knotted wood. I haven't started to burn it yet but I have some serious knots in Oak that my 22 ton splitter had a rough time cutting, just wondering if anyone has burn much of it.

AirForcePol,

I have 8' of triple wall S/S on my 5000E, came from TSC. It not exactly whats coming out of the OWB but it fits and work OK. Just using the flashing to keep it solid, only about 2' out of the roof of my building.

Anyone tell me where you can get a Moisture meter ? What would be a good average of moisture in your wood.

How did you WB do last night ? Im using a 5000E also first year and fill it 2/3 full at 9:00 pm and at 7:00 am have very little wood left. I did find out that   im getting better burn if reduce  50 to 70%, also if I don't have a good ash base I good through more wood, haven't quite figured out how to keep that base though. I do think I get about the same burn time if I fill it to the top or just about 2/3 full.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Supply Return lines
« on: November 17, 2014, 09:12:22 AM »
I started my burner about a week ago and its working great. I noticed this morning the contractor who installed the water lines has the supply and return lines reversed.  How is this going to effect the supply line water temp, it seem to be working ok now. Wondering if it will effect my warranty.
