Owatonna eh? I think I may venture down there for that

VA Farm Show was the coldest show I've ever done I think. Bitter wind Wed and Thurs. G1 purred along running a 1200 cfm blower nonstop. Lots of interest this year. GS models are really taking off.
-
Can this thread be pinned to the top?
-
that G100 is just too darn cute...lmao
-
It's surprising what that unit will do though. Just stopped at a job we did a couple of weeks ago. Old farmhouse with way undersized 2 ton heat pump, freezing pipes, shivering.
In goes the G1 and the house is 74 and unlimited hot water. Yeah, those make you not mind dragging pipe in the cold. :)

I’ve talked to a lot of people that weren’t really happy with their heat pumps, makes me think a lot were undersized on purpose to keep the initial sticker shock down or something.

The further north you go it becomes almost impossible to size. Cooling load and heating load are too far apart. You size for one and the other is way off. We're too cold for heat pumps here really, definitely in Indiana.
Definitely hear it at a show after a cold snap.
-
I tell people that have a heat pump and hate it ' I love to see a heat pump and a teenage girl. I know your out of hot water and cold and we can fix both.'
-
Southern Farm Show had a big crowd today. Lots of interest in G and GS units. Lots of talk of changeouts with aging units out there.
-
Western VA Sport Show. Fishersville, VA. Feb 23, 24. Highland Welding will be there burning a G!
-
Actually a lot of people here call a heat pump a three season pump. Works great Spring Summer and Fall then falls flat on its face in the winter.
-
FYI, we'll have the G100 show trailer fired up at the West VA State Fair next week, and Hillsville flea market Labor day weekend. Come on out and see it burn.
Every unit sold before Sept 30 gets a chance on a stainless steel portable grill.
-
I will be at the Badger Gas and Steam Show in Baraboo WI. Runs from August 17th to the 19th. Will have a show trailer running there.
This show trailer will be at the Minnesota state fair after it leaves here.
-
Mlappin not sure what your calling a heat pump? If it is a conventional above ground unit with a reversing valve then yes, it is basically a 3 season system in colder climates. Geothermal on the other hand, properly sized and installed will work fine in any region.

Its just a heat pump, no buried lines and all that. Basically had electric heating element in it for winter.
-
I would call it air source v. ground source heat pump.
I'm seeing more and more new houses around here going the route of an air source heat pump (AC and back-up) with a coil from a wood boiler for the main heating season.

It's been a busy first day at the WV State Fair!
-
Take a swim in that... ;)

Do your county fairs last ten days?
We’ve talked about doing our county fair, falls right on the 4th of July holiday. Dang thing lasts ten full days. We always have stuff going on with both the American Legion and VFW for Independence Day. I could rent an inside spot so the wife can be in the AC (cardiac issue).
Just not sure it’s worth it, besides every time I mention it I get the ole stink eye from her….

Our county is so small it only lasts a weekend. Some do last 10 days, and this fair (WV State) does 10. I help a few days, Marlinton Southern States does the whole thing. He's a great guy, I'd be a frazzle in the heat that long. I like short 2 or 3 day events myself, too much work piles up otherwise.

We did the Blueberry Festival a couple years, Labor Day weekend. Figured it out to being there 46 hours over four days, that doesn’t include setup or tear down. WE skipped that this year, wrong crowd anyways. Doing a Oktoberfest this fall and next year will be doing a Firemans Festival the next town over, it lasts 4 days, but three of those are from 6pm to 10pm, Saturday is the only full day. Draws more farmers and the like, more my crowd than the artsy fartsy and craft crowd the Blueberry draws.

Sometimes I like the little shows better. There is less contention between manufacturers, less lying to get an advantage, etc. I remember setting up at a flee market some years back with two stoves, had a good time and a $15 lot cost and ending up selling 7 units. One day event.
-
Do you fellas get a lot of sales out of a typical county fair? I know I helped out a guy in high school a couple years set up a few county fair booths and it was tough to even get people to stop and check stuff out. Nobody seemed to care. We had talked about it a couple years ago and I asked if he was still doing the fairs and I seem to recall him saying in the years he ran the fair circuit (like 8-10 years) he sold 2 boilers lol
-
It's more about keeping your name out there, meeting a few new people. Fall is much better than June/July!
But to be honest- word of mouth, internet, parts and service are by far the most effective way to generate sales. Probably after sales service is the biggest. It's good for them and good for us.

Hillsville Flea Market starts next weekend. Washed the trailer today.
And we're going down into the 50's at night this week. Bring on the cold!

Beautiful day at the Hillsville Flea Market. Always amazes me how many people come here.
