I just fill it front to rear and check it twice a day when burning hard.

On my fourth year. Minimal trouble last year. No issues so far this year.

I have had this same thing happen. I added a probe in one of my unused bulkhead fittings. It was a Honeywell switch, open on rising, that I have set to 195. If the water temp get too high due to a control failure, the temp switch will open and cut power to the damper solenoid. This doesn't protect against mechanical failure, though, ie: solenoid sticks in the "energized" position.

I have an early build 2000 size Ridgewood. I had alot of trouble with solenoids and controllers, and they always helped me out. The new ownership seems to be trying to run a legit shop making good boilers for the money.

So I called the new Ridgewood company, which is now EZ Boilers. The guy that answered the phone (Ken, I believe, couldn't hear him that well) was pretty decent to talk to. I asked about warranty and water samples. He told me that they ARE honoring warranties on the Ridgewood stoves. I asked him about water samples. He said to send a sample in to make sure the warranty is maintained. I told him that I did not have a test kit, he said just to use a water bottle with a few ounces of sample water. Include your stove serial number, and your contact info (address and phone #). Apparently some of the original record retention was lost in the ownership change. I'm not trying to defend or recommend these guys. Just telling what happened when I called. Have a Merry Christmas!!!

Didn't see any fine print, but didn't look very close...............

Ad says they are legal and will deliver to Ohio and surrounding states. How is that possible? I thought Michigan was the only state that made some motion to refrain from enforcing the new EPA law......????????

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / Ridgewood replacement??
« on: September 25, 2016, 10:02:09 AM »
Just starting a conversation only. If you are a ridgewood owner and have already/are thinking about replacing your Ridgewood, what would go to? Most of us have to go to a gasser of some sort, what would you choose?

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / So, Ridgewood is still open?

Ridgewood appears to still be operating. They are building new stoves and offering repairs on the old ones and have made an engineering change on the damper. So I guess those of us with Ridgewoods still have factory support??

They used THHN jacketed wire in these stoves. It's a very tough plastic that becomes extremely stiff when cold. If I do the Ranco install like has been kicked around on this thread, all that wiring will get changed out to MTW. MTW (machine tool wire) jacket stays flexible but the cross sectional size is larger.

So far, this year I haven't had any trouble with my Love controller, but last year I changed out 2 of them. I have a spare on the shelf as well as 2 spare solenoids (changed 1 this year). I'll be interested to hear what Slim has to say about the Ranco controller. Maybe that will be a good summer project. I'll be adding an over temp aquastat after this season also.

So, I was just checking out that Ranco controller. It looks pretty nice and has the Nema 4X enclosure available. Maybe that is the way to go instead of building a control. Are the Ranco controllers pretty reliable?? Should be a pretty simple install.
