Plumbing / Putting circulator pump on a timer
« on: October 15, 2017, 04:48:32 PM »
I like to put one of the boiler pumps on a timer. It feeds my side are heat exchanger for my domestic hot water heater. I feel there is no need to heat water that is already heated when not in use. Anyone ever put the pump on a timer?

Central Boiler / The use of ashtrol
« on: October 15, 2017, 01:12:38 PM »
the use of ashtrol.

1.  does it really help to keep the creosote down?
2. If some say that you can use regular Barn lime, is it the white chalky stuff or the stuff you use on a lawn like pelletized lime?
3. Do you just toss it on the  wood in the fire?
4  . If it is Barn lime or pelletized lime how much do you use and how often? Thank you

Central Boiler / 0014 01 pump cartridge fail

Question about a taco 0014 01 pump. I want to up grade my pump to a metal impeller but don't want to switch out the whole pump or the Volute. Do you know if they make a impeller replacement part that I can just slip in? I got a email into the manufacture but haven't heard back from them yet.

I religiously purchase a new test kit every two years.. this year I had to purchase a new one ..old one says April 2015 and it already went bad. Just got one off e bay and I am at 17 drops. I am storing this one in the house.. not at the boiler

Central Boiler / How can I tell if my circulator pump is on its way out?
« on: December 04, 2016, 10:08:23 PM »
What are the symptoms of a circulator pump going? I think it's a Taco 007! Outside temp is 182 at the boiler and in the house it's coming in at 155 and return is 142 to 145 measured by a remote smoker thermometer which I'm sure is not as accurate.

Plumbing / i need to run another loop. Question on draining
« on: December 04, 2015, 08:48:34 PM »
I need to add another loop to my Central Boiler 6048. I need to drain some water .. I never did this. Some say to just undo the plug and hurry to thread a valve on and some say to completely drain the unit..

What's the proper way?  U hate to drain and waste the treated water. .

General Discussion / Concrete Floor sometimes sweat in my pole barn
« on: November 18, 2015, 05:45:37 PM »
Inside my pole barn the concrete floor always feels damp. When we poured the floor years ago poured it over gravel. Someone said to me that I should have put a vapor barrier down like a sheet of plastic then poured over top of that. Well it's too late and I am in the process of making a little office inside my building and I don't want to have moisture issues in that room. What are some of my options? Thank you Anthony
