General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / A reminder
« on: March 01, 2016, 11:22:42 AM »
A little reminder of why not to put your boiler in a building and then blaming the manufacturer . Pure ignorance and stupidity of the owner not manufacturer or installer. Granted the installer should've advise against it but still not his fault in my opinion. I hope the video Play's.

General Discussion / The new year
« on: December 31, 2015, 02:30:31 PM »
Last year tomorrow I (and my family)  tragically lost someone I looked up to very much in my life and worked hard everyday to  make him proud to call me his nephew  as I was to call him my uncle. I just want to remind everyone to remember there is light at the end of the tunnel, tomorrow is another day, and life does go on,  even though it may not seem possible at that time. Those of you that are having difficulties in your life be it health, marriage, financial, ect. Remember tomorrow is another day and a new year, and even though it's not easy at all to start life over it can be done, possessions are just "things" in life and "things" can be replaced. Wishing everyone a happy 2016

Plumbing / Wet lines?
« on: October 12, 2015, 09:36:06 PM »
Best I can tell I'm loosing 20℉ on my house loop with the furnace not running and my hot water heater up to temp, approximately 220' underground and 30' in the house. I bought 2 digital meat thermometers and suck them under foam pipe wrap on the in and out in the back of my boiler they read almost exactly 20℉ different. It's 65℉ outside now. I'm ready to pull my hair out. How else can I test temp loss?

General Discussion / am i the only one?
« on: March 31, 2015, 10:22:41 AM »
Me and my wife met with our tax lady last night, this was our first year with a child to claim we got done and were given the refund amount from federal and how much we needed to pay the state of Michigan it felt like a kick in the nuts. My wife works full time, I work full time, and I am a subcontractor for snow removal. At my full time job I paid $26,000 between daycare, taxes ,and healthcare last year for the three of us. Why does it feel like the harder I work to make money and save money the more gets taken away. Am I the only one that feels like that I would sometimes be better off making less money and living off the government tit

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / used portage and main stove
« on: June 14, 2013, 03:35:57 PM »
I'm going sunday to look at a p&m ml series I think its a ml30 model 3years old for $1200. This guy that has it bought it from someone with 3 penny sized holes in the firebox, he then took it to a welding shop and had the firebox needle scaled, patched ,and pressure tested.

Any thoughts?????

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / exhaust gas temp
« on: April 17, 2013, 09:49:14 AM »
I'm pondering on building a gasifyer and was curious is it possible to pull to much heat from the exhaust gas? Would it cause condensation? I would like to hear some thoughts on peoples experiences as far as can you have to much cfm in fire box on non-gasser or a gasser? i dont think my  home built traditional owb is getting enough air to burn as clean as it should. I feed the air from under the fire through the grates.  It seems to burn cleaner when it has not much wood and has a few good air holes blown through the coals. but when its cold and i put a good load in the fire box for the day with a full bed of coals the smoke coming out the stack is dirty (dark or black) not nice and white or almost none any like when it has good  holes through the coal bed.  I am think that i need more cfm to penetrate the coal bed better

Plumbing / circulator pump
« on: April 05, 2013, 03:35:52 PM »
My homemade owb has had a problem boiling the water in the stove or at least steaming alot since i first started it. Does this sound like a poor circulation problem in the stove? Its designed like a p&m ml30-ml36. Their are two loops setup this way=  supply water out of the top of the water jacket to load  and returning in to the bottom of the stove around the tubes for the grates. the pump is on the supply outlet pushing the water out to the load and then back. My question is can i flip the pump over and make it pull water into the stove instead of pushing it out to see if this helps the steaming/boiling issue without hurting the pumps. Or am over looking the obvious

« on: September 24, 2012, 06:37:22 PM »
Any thoughts on how much distance to keep between the aquastat/ high limit Probe well and the fire box . I have an exhaust heat exchanger going through the water jacket like portage and main design also. Hopefully I'm just over thinking this. Any thoughts would be helpful
