Spark Arrestor Chimney Cap
« on: August 30, 2011, 11:02:28 AM »

So I went to my local CB dealer yesterday. While talking with him I brought up the subject of the chimney cap. He said most of his customers don't use one because they cause the chimney to plug.

Thoughts?

You know why they plug? Because they have a screen in them! Take the screen out and put the cap on. It will keep the rain and snow out!

The cap gets gunky and the stuff ends up running down your shiny stainless stack and also tends to direct sparks downward where without the cap everything will go straight up and out. You only need the cap when the boiler is closed down anyway. 5 gallon bucket over the summer works well

If you take out the screen it is no longer a spark arrestor.

I didn't buy it as a spark arrestor. It's a weather cap. Besides that...what sparks?
