6048 burning coal?
« on: November 14, 2011, 09:08:04 AM »

I thought I asked this already, but I cannot find it, so here it is again.  I have the 6048.  It has no grates or anything.  I have heard a lot of people saying they add a little coal with thier wood and it helps.  Would the coal burn in this furnace?  I was told you needed grates for the coal to burn since it wanted air coming from underneath.  Coal is really cheap here so this would be nice.  I'm thinking just a shovel a day or something in with the wood.

It could be done.  Coal does need air from underneath to burn properly, but perhaps you could try it.  You'll just get a lot of clinkers and won't get full use of the coal.  Try it and see, its not going to hurt anything.  I wouldnt put it in a gassifier tho.
