Portage and Main OWB
« on: March 12, 2010, 03:04:26 AM »

Just wondering if anyone has first hand experience or knowledge of these boilers?  From what I read, they have been around awhile.

I have been thinking of getting one of them and have done some homework on them.  I have seen several in action and they look very impressive. They have a great heat exchanger design that is easy to clean. They have been around a long time and claim to have the best warranty if there is such a thing.  And from the people I have talked to they claim to burn much less wood than comparable furnaces. ???

i saw them at the national farm show they are a good looking and well built boiler
they are also pretty pricey and firetube boilers have been around for 100 years but you have to clean the tubes out with a brush
on a rod

The brand name has been around for a long time, but has gone in and out of business.  The newest manufacturing company has only been making them for a few years.  He is also the only heatmor dealer I ever had to take a dealership away from.  In our 14yrs of distributing Heatmor we have only had 8 failures in all of western Canada, one was with one of his sales.  The customer tried dealing with Bryan for almost a year before they call Heatmor(either Heatmor nor Harris Custom new of the leak before that call) at which point we replace the furnace.  Bryan tried to sell them a portage at a discount as apposed to having the furnace replaced at NO cost.
