Just had to brag on my 10000E just a little!!!
« on: December 11, 2013, 04:30:21 PM »

With all the cold weather we are having just wanted to say thanks to the people that have helped me along the way. Stove is working awesome. Filling it up 3/4 way and getting an easy 24 hour burn. Here is a little video of what was left after 24 hours and could have lasted an easy 6 more hours.

That's pretty cool!  I was pumped about getting about 13 hours on mine full of oak, heating 3500 square feet  to 73 degrees and hot water.  Wind chill is -5 or so today and temp peaked at about 15 degrees

Baseball, I'm loading 3/4 full and only getting 12-16 hour burn times.  Now, I think I'm into my poplar portion of my stack.  Tonight, I'm going to load a full load of red oak that I cut in June/July.  I want to see how much difference the wood makes.  It know it's a little green, but I really just want some perspective.  Nice to hear what our stoves are capable of with good wood!

Been loading (3/4) my Standard 10000, once a day.  Keeping 3700 sq ft house at 73-75.  That's been primarily wild cherry, red oak (poor quality),hemlock, and now some hickory.

We were out of town for Thanksgiving which was the coldest weather of the season.  Set thermostat back to 69.  My neighbor loaded it slam full Friday evening.  I still had a warm house Sunday at 2:00 when I got home.  Nothing but fine ash in the stove, but water had only dropped to 140.  Stirred the ashes a little, and to my surprise saw a couple sparks!  Put some dry quartered hickory in, and she took right back off!

That's a good point Scott. I can see my grates when I go to load. I think if have to go a full month of not emptying my ah pan to get that deep. I've been stretching to 3 weeks between emptying. Maybe I should go longer. Baseball, how often do you empty?

I empty my ash pan on Saturdays. The way to get a good coal bed is to just tap the shaker grate after you load you stove. I come home and go to the stove. First thing is a get wood ready that i am going to put in(I keep track of the weather and temps and know how much I should have to put in). Second is I open door rake all the coals and wood that may be left over round to make it even. Third I put wood in. After that I make the fan come on get it to fire up. Then I just tap the grates about 5 times and a the fire gets to going I shut the door and head to a warm house. I am running my Stove at 175 with a 17 degree difference. I don't know why 17 just seems to work good and hardly any smoke.

Welp, it is definitely my wood. I loaded up about a half to 3/4 load of red oak at 8:30 last night. I'm at the 18 hour mark right now and could still get another 2-4 hours out of this load. 24 hours with a bigger load should be easily doable. Good to know. Tell you what, I think I'm done taking junk wood.

I am noticing a HUGE difference in my wood usage now that I have some real hardwood.  With day temps in the teens and night temps near zero, I'm getting 12 hr. burns on little more than half a load of white ash.  Temps are supposed to get back above freezing after today and I'm excited about getting back on 24 hr burns!

This white ash burns pretty hot!  I went out this morning and I had a 4 degree overrun.  I've had 1 or 2 here and there with other stuff, but 4?  The fire was definitely "dead" when I opened the door, so I'm sure there are no air leaks.  But, I've got a deep coal bed (that I'm keeping aerated.)  I wish I had hardwood this whole winter!

Let's compare apples to apples here guys.  I also have a 10,000 1/2e.  I have no blower over the top!  I'm guessing kybaseball is from Kentucky?  I would kill to get 24hr burn times but I chose to live in Wisconsin!  If I want 24 hr burn times I will have to run into June!  Today was the first day above 10 all winter it seems like.  But I guess the colder it is the more we save!
