Heatmor / Re: furnace keeps going into safety mode

I have the 400, so yes, two blowers. And yes, it should reset but there is no way the stove has reached 200 degree more than a dozen times in the last 24 hours, when it hasn't reached 200 degrees since we started the fire back in October. (and that was just because we had the door open while getting a coal bed going).

The night it went out, the stove was fully loaded on a good bed of coals. I went out in the morning to check it and none of the wood was burnt except for some scorch marks on the very bottom pieces.

Both aquastats were replaced in November because we couldn't keep a fire going then either. Dealer thought the high temp aquastat could be faulty. We haven't had any problems since we replaced it until now, but its only been 3 months!

Bladder is fine, I put more in yesterday, but it didn't need it. Valve is open and ashes are empty.

Heatmor / furnace keeps going into safety mode
« on: February 22, 2015, 12:21:34 AM »
So last night, in negative degree weather, my stove went out entirely. I couldn't figure out why until I spent the entire  day babysitting the damn thing to get a coal bed built up again. It kept shutting off after going into safety mode, which means the burner had to reach temps greater than 180. This happened at least 6 times that I saw, but maybe more while I was in the house. The issue is that the thermostat never read above 170. We have the aquastat set to 180 with a 5 degree differential and yet the thermostat usually reads around 155-160.  This problem just started last night. The stove is brand new, just installed in October and we have already replaced the aquastat and the high temp, non adjustable aquastat back in november, do we need to do so again? Anyone else have these issues?

our deal is Poust outdoor wood furnaces....since the purchase we have been less than impressed with them. Nice people but they gave us some bad advice. Said to just hook up the burner directly to our furnace inside..without a heat exchange plate, which Heatmor disagreed with.

Should we call Heatmor about the aquastat? Is that something that can be replaced?

I turned on the fan by the door...with the light switch.

I too have this issue. Brand new stove, started it up less than a month ago. This morning my temp was down to 150 but my aquastat is set to 180 with a 5 degree differential. Its maddening.

the fan was not on. I turned it on and the fire started right up. I was wrong on the differential, we have a 5 degree differential set, so I don't understand why the temp would ever drop to 150?

we're burning oak. mostly splits. pretty big. We usually just split the wood in half unless it was a really large piece to begin with. It's pretty dry. It was either dead down or dead standing that my husband cut this year and we left it sit in the sun for months to dry it out. I haven't had any issues since the weather has been colder. But the last 2 days have been warm and I just can't keep a good coal bed. This morning I went out and the temp was down to 150! We have the high set at 180 with a ten degree differential so it shouldn't get that low right? My husband has thought from the get go that there was something wrong with our aquastat, it just doesn't seem very accurate.

Thanks for the information everyone! Sorry I took so long to respond, I guess I didn't set the email notifications for my own post!

We have our water temp set for 180 with a 10 degree differential I believe. We did finally get a coal bed established and haven't had any issues for the last 3 weeks...until today. It's 50 degrees out and I barely have any coals. I'm going to try and change the differential and see if that helps.

Heatmor / Fire keeps going out

Hi everyone, I'm brand new to this whole thing. I know very little about all this and I'm at my wit's end!

We have a 400 dcss, heating our hot water and 3 levels, 900 sq feet each. I know, the 400 is a bit over kill for our house but we plan to hook another building up to it in the future, so we went big. Problem: we cannot get the fire to stay lit. We have tired everything we can think of, even had an 8 inch bed of coals going at one point and still no luck. We live in Northern PA, it's been chilly (mid 30's-40's) the last week. We've only had this furnace for a month and just finished hooking it up and we are so frustrated my husband is ready to bag the whole deal and go back to propane.

If you need more info on our system, ask away. I didn't personally do the install, my father and husband did, so I'll pass questions along if need be.

Thanks!
