Central Boiler / CB CL5036 display
« on: November 14, 2017, 09:39:46 AM »
I have a Central Boiler 5036 that has a dot in the display.  So, last night I loaded it up and there were coals in there before I closed the door.  The temp reading at the time was 177.  This morning I go out and the solenoid is open and drafting, but when I open the door, there was never a fire from last night.  I looked at the display and it is reading 1.12 (except the dot is at the top of the display).  I turned everything off and restarted and the dot is still in the display and the solenoid opened again.  I started a fire in it and it is currently burning with the display now showing 1.49 or 149 degrees.  Wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what is the issue with the dot in the display.
Thanks,

Central Boiler / Overheating problem
« on: October 08, 2016, 08:37:13 AM »
Well, I fired up my CB 5036 this week and have an overheating problem.  The temp goes up to 185, but when I go back out an check it, it's up as high as 194.  I noticed this at the end of the season this past May, but it was windy here at the time and just thought it might be over drafting.  I've check the door and damper and both seem to be sealing good.  Any ideas?

I have a Rinnai R75LSi that I've had up and running for 7 years. I've descaled four times. Four years ago, I put a plate exchanger in front of it that is in front of my outdoor wood furnace. Everything has worked fine for four years. About three weeks ago, I notice the water was not as hot and the flow was about 60% of my cold water flow. Even though the Rinnai hadn't signaled me to descale, I thought I would descale both the Rinnai and the plate exchanger....separately. I did the plate exchange, then went to the Rinnai. I flushed the Rinnai for about 45 minutes and then I think I messed up. I decided to swap the hoses around on the Rinnai to make sure it was flushed well. The flush pump wouldn't pump through the Rinnai after about 10 seconds, I shut the pump off and disconnected. However, I think I may have messed up a check value or something on the inside of the Rinnai as now the external check value is leaking water when I plugged it back in and I have virtually no water pressure. In fact, the Rinnai won't even come on when I hope a hot water spigot in the house and will only come on when I open the check value located under the Rinnai. On the Rinnai troubleshooting it shows the following: "Nothing happens when water flow is activated.
Check for cold to hot cross over. Isolate circulating system if present. Turn off cold water to the unit, open pressure relief valve; if water continues to flow, there is bleed over in your plumbing."
Mine is doing that, but it doesn't tell you what to do if that is the case.

Does anybody have any ideas?
Rinnai is closed for the weekend.

By the way, does anybody know what to expect on cleaning a 50plate HX?  The return water line was very slow for the full hour of flushing.  Does that sound right?

Central Boiler / Heat exchangers not exchanging heat much
« on: April 04, 2016, 09:48:25 PM »
I've got a CB5036 installed about four years ago and it has been great.  About two weeks ago, I noticed the DHW wasn't as hot as it had been.  It used to be, you couldn't hold your hand under the hot water for more than a couple of seconds.  Now, the water is about what it is when it comes out of my tankless..about 135 degrees.  Any ideas of what may be the issue?

Central Boiler / 5036 puffing out front intake
« on: December 06, 2014, 03:54:46 PM »
hey it's been awhile since I've been on here, but I've got a new problem with my CB5036.  While burning after shutting the door, it puffs smoke and a little fire out of the intake in the door.  Also, when the door is closed, it's not burning very good.  I've cleaned out the stack but the same results.  When I open the door it really gets to burning good.  I close the door and it starts puffing out the door vent big time. Never seen this before.  Anybody else had this problem?

Central Boiler / Greenhouse heat?
« on: October 26, 2011, 06:14:18 AM »
I have a CB5036 that is plenty to heat my house.  Just built a greenhouse and am thinking of running a line to it...about 50' away.  Just wanted to see if anybody out there has done this for a greenhouse application and if so, what are the problems, if any, with having done that.  What do you connect the pipe to on the other end, or do you just use exposed pipe on the inside of the greenhouse?

Central Boiler / Propane furnace kicks on despite hot water from OWB
« on: October 21, 2011, 10:47:32 AM »
Just wanted to see if others are having or have had this same problem.

My indoor propane boiler comes on and runs for about thirty seconds when there is a call for heat.  I have the water control temp on the propane boiler set at it's lowest setting of 140 degrees.  It did it again early this morning, so I went down stairs to check it out.  My indoor temp from the OWB on the supply side was at 172 degrees.  The indoor propane boiler shut down after a few seconds and the pumps for the floor heat continued running as normal....just can't figure out why the propane furnace has to come on, when there is ample hot water coming in from the OWB.  Also check my supply pump at the OWB since it is a Grundfos Alpha variable pump to see the flow rate.   This morning, the flow rate was 3 GPM.  I can increase that if need, but again, the lines inside the house were showing 172 degrees going into the heat exchanger....anybody got any ideas?

Central Boiler / 5036 lower opeating temps
« on: May 01, 2011, 07:06:30 AM »
Well my CL5036 is getting a good late season test.  It is 19 degrees and snowing, so four days after install, my boiler is starting to pay it's way.   I have the restrictor in place and everything seems to going well.  My dealer set the temperature on the boiler at 185 degrees and my indoor thermometer on the supply side is reading 183 degrees today.  Been thinking about that high a temperature and realize that both my infloor radiant heat and DHW both use a mixing value to reduce the temperature down to 130 and 120 degrees respectively.  So, why should I heat the water to 185 just to cool it down to 120 before it can be used?
I am considering lowering my heat setting on my unit down to 165, so that it kicks on at 154.  If that works with no problems, I will probably run it that way through the summer just for the DHW.  Does it make sense that it would take less wood to do that?  I wonder if doing that would increase the amount of cresoting?  If anyone has some experience in that with a classic boiler, please chime in.
By the way, so far I am only using branches to fire the boiler. Nothing over 4".  I have plenty of seasoned wood ready to go, just thought with mild temperatures it would be good to clean up some of the limbs I had around the property.

Central Boiler / CB5036 baffle in chimney
« on: March 30, 2011, 10:27:27 AM »
Hi all, I am new to this forum.  I have a CB 5036 on order and my dealer told me of a "new" baffle in the chimney that is suppose to reduce wood use.  This is not the baffle at the end of the box, but up in the stack.  Anyone got one of these?
Also, anybody willing to give me some feedback on their CB5036 with or without the baffle.
Thanks much
