Empyre / Re: ProFab has some issues!

If Your burner is running now with temps going from 45/65 then your also not pulling on your burner. I get what your trying to say. BUT COME ON! Less than 4 months and it's a junk box!!!!  And still sitting with Holes in it. Cause the Dealer feels he sold it now, you deal with it!  O Profab does not even want to respond! NOW THATS CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE!! BUY USA PEOPLE!!!

Slim had a good analogy about the truck scenario, trucks have transmissions for varying loads of work, you dont always drive your truck around in 6th gear.

Diesel particulate filters may be an even better analogy.  You used to be able to idle a diesel all day long but with the particulate filters and the varying methods of self cleaning you will plug one up pretty bad if you are not using the truck to its intended capacity.  Likewise can happen when exhaust temperatures exceed thresholds.  Underuse=over loading with soot, overuse= filter meltdown.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Youtube Video Empyre 200
« on: April 03, 2014, 09:18:47 AM »
Hey everyone, I trust many of us are getting glimpses of grass and asphalt now!

I came across these video's that are about a year old or so.  Not sure if it has already been discussed or if the owner is a user here but I would be interested in hearing what some of you have to say about his problem.

Empyre 200

There are about 5 videos related to his complaints.

Empyre / Re: empyre pro 200 first impressions!
« on: April 03, 2014, 04:43:49 AM »
Well after reading this entire thread on a 777 on the way back from Italy and knowing I have a Empyre 200pro sitting on pallets waiting for pickup I get a bit of a peach pit in my stomach.  However, this thread does remind me of a joke... Hope this brightens everyone's day and they can see the similarities...

A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband.. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded:

" Rome ?Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty.. You're crazy to go to Rome .. So, how are you getting there?"

"We're taking Air Italia!," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"

"Air Italia?" exclaimed the hairdresser.. " That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome ?"

"We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome 's Tiber River called Teste."

"Don't go any further. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump."

"We're going to go to see the Vatican and maybe get to see the Pope."

"That's rich," laughed the hairdresser. You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant.

Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it..."

A month later, the woman again came in for a hairdo. The hairdresser asked her about her trip to Rome

"It was wonderful," explained the woman, "not only were we on time in one of Air Italia's brand new planes, but it was overbooked, and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me hand and foot.

And the hotel was great! They'd just finished a 5 million remodelling job, and now it's a jewel, the finest hotel in the city. They too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner's suite at no extra charge!"

"Well," muttered the hairdresser, "that's all well and good, but I bet you didn't get to see the Pope."

"Actually, we were quite lucky, because as we toured the Vatican, a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder, and explained that the Pope likes to meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait, the Pope would personally greet me.

Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down and he spoke a few words to me"

"Oh, really! What'd he say ?"

He said: "Who the **** did your hair?"

Fire Wood / Re: Not selling any wood
« on: March 26, 2014, 02:56:40 PM »
the simple answer to your question is we don't make any money.  We just enjoy doing it.  At least I do.  Its more of a hobby.  I lost 50 lbs when I started my firewood business.  I feel healthier and have more energy.  Something about the process of working a standing tree into a pile of wood gives me a real sense of accomplishment.  Its not for everyone but I LOVE it.  When I'm not cutting my firewood on the side, I work for a tree service cutting. When I'm not doing that, I clear brush (sapplings, briars, bushes etc.) on my property running a saw.  I bet I run a saw 250 days a year or better some years.

I endorse this post.  Why get a gym membership when you can get ripped heating your house for free?

Fire Wood / Re: log splitters

I have a champion 30 Ton from TSC I paid 1200.00 for.  Its horizontal and flips vertical with very little effort.    The 20 ton was on special and when they checked stock the attendant rolled this out to my truck, said this is all they have left and gave it to me for the sale price.  Needless to say I kept my mouth shut.
Other than the pieces of steel that are supposed to knock the wood back when the splitter gets caught crumpling  like cigarette papers and a wiring problem to the kill switch I have had great success splitting wood I can barely lift up or to the machine.

When everyone is throwing around the word "cord" are they referring to a face cord or bush cord?  When I read posts on piling, stacking, processing and consumption and one says "cord" what is the forums agreed reference? Face or bush?  When it comes to caloric expenditure for me its a huge impact.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Wood boiler base
« on: March 06, 2014, 11:31:59 AM »
Hey All,

After taking a merciless beating from my propane and furnace oil company this season i finally pulled the trigger on a boiler.  I have tried to do as much research as possible over the last year and chose an Empyre 200pro gasification unit.
The company I purchased it from is kind enough to store it until I have my base made.  That way I only have to make one move with it when it arrives.
My first question for the forum (first of many I am sure) is if anyone has any recommendations for the base.  The manual that comes with the boiler shows optimal measurements for a concrete pad with openings for electricity and water lines.  Does anyone have any input to this process?  Build bigger/better/patiostones vs concrete?
I am planning to do a nice install so I am open to suggestions.  I don't want to pour a pad big enough to park a transport load full of rounds but I also don't want to be tripping over the lip while filling the stove!

Thanks in advance!
