Site Suggestions / Like option

How about a "like" option that you can use. Other forums have this and if you like the post you hit "like" and your forum name appears at the bottom of that post with any others?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Infloor or Mechanical room?
« on: December 18, 2013, 08:54:51 AM »
So, in a nutshell. My mechanical room for the house is attached to the garage. Baseboard heat with infloor in garage and foyer.
All piping above grade is copper with about 60' exposed in mech room. I haven't used the garage in floor because keeping the door open to the mech room keeps garage at 55-60 deg.
Now I'm thinking that if I use the in floor in garage and shut mech room door i'll use less wood once the slab comes up to temp. With temps below zero at night and barely getting out of the teens during the day, I'd rather use the heat from mech room to heat the house. I'm thinking that there would be less heat loss? am I missing something?

General Discussion / 10,000 Cords
« on: November 18, 2013, 03:07:27 PM »
Yep, you read it right. I was talking to a guy on a jobsite today who had ordered wood from a guy in central Wisconsin.
The guy has a Christmas tree farm and wanted the oak and maple logged off 10 acres at a time so he could plant more Christmas trees.
Apparently there was a misunderstanding between he and the logger and SEVERAL HUNDRED acres were logged i.e. 10,000 cords of oak and maple.
Imagine having 10,000 cords of wood you can't use  :bash:
With the cost of wood in northern Wisconsin your sitting on $1,000,000.00 worth of wood.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Water level
« on: November 07, 2013, 08:55:40 AM »
Been reading some of the posts regarding water levels and adding water. This will be the third winter with the 5036 and I've never had to fill water. I check daily and water level is even with or above line on sight tube. Let a sleeping dog lay?

Central Boiler / Pump noise and furnace bubbling
« on: November 01, 2013, 09:52:25 AM »
I have a CB5036 that is starting its third winter  right now I am burning oak and maple. My question is, the bed of coals is so hot that the furnace is bubbling but the water temp says 175-185. Now i'm wondering if the bubbling is causing air which is making my grunfoss pump at the furnace squeal. I turned the pump off and then back on and the noise stopped. Do you think the pump may be on its way out? Thoughts?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Radiant slab or wall hung unit?
« on: April 25, 2011, 12:56:29 PM »
We are in the process of buiding a 750 sq ft garage with living quarters above (attached to existing home).
existing home has a boiler with baseboard heat. I am getting mixed reviews as to whether I should use radiant in the garage floor or just install a wall hung modine.
25 sheets of 2" hi dense foam $25.00 a sheet not including out side perimeter plus the pex tubing, etc. or $300-400 for a blower unit. The radiant option, not yet installed is well over a $1000.00. it would be a lot less expensive for the blower unit and wouldn't have to temper the water.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S. this is in northern Wisconsin, and I'm waiting on delivery of my CL5036 :)
