Portage & Main / Re: BL 28-40 blower fan making some noise.
« on: February 25, 2018, 11:39:09 AM »
Hi there I Wood check for something in the squirrel cage. I sell the boilers and have not heard of many that have failed. But have seen this before that something got in there causing the noise.
Good luck

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Which OWB
« on: March 18, 2017, 12:06:36 PM »
Furnace has been ordered, Portage and Main EGR 250.  Primary reason I choose the P&M was that they would deal directly with me. The closest dealer for the other option was 850 miles so service really was not an option and when I need parts or consultation I wanted to be able to deal directly with manufacture.

I decided to go with an EPA certified unit where I live in the Socialist State of Washington and we are under the constant thumb of the gestapo due to our farming activities.  The EGR 250 will likely require more maintenance and service than my old boiler but I am hoping the promise of better efficiency will compensate for that.

Once I get it installed and have a few cords of wood through it I will post a review.

Just wanted to say you made a great choice .  P&M stand by their products. Hope it does you right.

Portage & Main / Re: bl 28-40 front air chamber plugging
« on: March 18, 2017, 09:00:33 AM »
Hi everyone I have a few solutions to the lower bricks clogging up. If you remove the center ones and use a masonry grinding wheel and shave off some of the curved part of the brick this will allow the ashes to fall into the ash pan a little better.
I just came from a very successful Farm show in Ottawa Canada. We are now providing free of charge a Insulated ash pan plug to resolve the moisture problem.  The reason you do not see the moisture in the upper bypass chamber is the outer insulated door.   P&M will have them at your local trades show for free to give to past customers.      I also found that I use a small ice pick on a long handle to keep the air vent cleaned.  It is located at the very back of the ash pan where the air is first introduced from the blower. It can get blocked by the ash pan by pushing the ash right to the back. I hope this helps a little.

Heatmor / Re: new heatmor and having huge issues
« on: April 25, 2014, 10:29:29 AM »
Good for you Slimjim it seems to me that you handle the situation the right way. The heatmore owner needed help  and came hear for it. You did the right thing and did exactly that. If she would have got that help like she should have in a timely manner you would have never been involved. You did what was right.
Take care.

Portage & Main / Re: looking to buy a bl2840
« on: March 29, 2014, 08:22:31 PM »
Hey Slowtime,
I spoke with a BL 2840 owner close to you in Finch he ordered his direct from PM. I am doing the same because they are short on dealers in this area. This gentleman has had a outdoor boiler for twenty plus yrs. He just replaced it with the PM BL 2840 and loves it. He is very knowledgeable also. I also spoke to another owner this gentleman referred me to. If you call PM they can give his number. Let me know how you make out.
Take care.

Portage & Main / New purchase of BL 3444
« on: March 29, 2014, 07:17:28 PM »
Hi I'm new here and I just put a deposit down on a BL 3444. I was buying a Heatmor 400 even wrote the cheque. My first pick was Portage and Main but the local dealer was hard to get a hold of. It turns out he had some family / personal stuff to take care of which I can understand. So the local Heatmor dealer sold me on the 400. I then went to the local farm show and seen all the companies and their stoves. I met the owner of Portage and Main, Brian He told how good of a stove Heatmor is and asked if I looked at all the other stoves. I was impressed with his professionalism. He just pointed out what they have to offer and what he felt made their stove a good choice. He never bad mouthed any other company. I know many Heatmor owners in my area and they are very happy. I was impressed with them also. So why did I flip and choose the BL 3444. First it was about $3000.00 difference just for the stove. Then  Brian offered me a credit because of meeting him at the farm show. I then spoke to a few owners and seen a couple of the stoves operating and was impressed again. I like the keep it simple not a pile of electronics to go wrong approach. It is very solid with great detail in the build quality. I hope to have it delivered when ever the snow leaves if that ever happens. I live in Canada, Ontario just out side of Ottawa and it has been a real winter. I am like a kid and can't wait to get started on the install. I look forward to not bringing the 19 face cord and the mess inside  :). I will be looking for advice in the future.  I am trying to find out what size of a pad I will need for the BL 3444. The link on PM page won't open can anyone help.
Thanks
