Slim, thank you very much for your offering..  I ended up calling the guy back who did the wiring when it was installed.. But it was my error when I replaced the taco box on the oil furnace.. I gave it a test run tonight, and all is good..Again, thank you for your offer.

Electronics / wiring on furnace and owb temp puck

I have a problem getting my oil furnace to run when the OWB is not running.. The only way the oil furnace will run is if I disconnect one of the "T" wires on the Taco box for the OWB that's mounted on the the oil furnace.. The 2 "T" wires run to the little puck on the backside of the water storage of the OWB..  Also, when I shut the blowers off to load the stove, The main breaker for the OWB trips everytime..  Can someone please help..

Matt, If your not getting any air through your grates, I would take the front blower off and check the little port that leads there..When I bought my Unit, that port was packed solid with ash, due to neglect..After I cleaned it out and put the blower back on, it runs like a champ..As for the bed of coals, the only time I had a solid bed this last weekend when it was in the 50's.   But at night when the boiler had to work harder, the coals were gone..In my normal burns, I have about 40-50% of the grates exposed,,

How would this be done? Just run them paralell? I was told if I put the plate exchanger out at the OWB, my temps would of  been higher..I just dont know how it makes a difference

I kinda like the idea of adding some coal maybe a bag every few days, just to make the wood last a little longer..Or just add the coal on very cold spells,, I am sure the coal wont effect the sand on the side of the grate if some gets in there.. Judd, are the Heatmors made to burn coal?? I thought I read some where that your not suppose to use coal. Or is that just a warranty glitch??

This topic is interesting!!! So I take it that it is ok to add alittle coal to the OWB to increase burn times..I also have a Heatmor with the sand on the side. Judd, when you load your coal, do you try to keep in centered on the grate?  and from what I read, only add coal in moderations... I am looking forward to how you make out.  This is a whole new learning experience for me

The house is 3200sq ft, with 9ft ceiling on both floors and and 20 ft ceiling in the family room(alot of wasted heat).. I am planning on heating my 30x40 garage with a in law apartment above it..But this year, I was just concetrating on heating our house and get rid of the outragous heating bill.  I know the 400 is a little big for what I needed, but the price was right..It was a 4 year old boiler with 3 pumps all the fittings and 2 taco boxes. with about 100 ft of Alum=Pex to run to my oil furnace for 3000.00. I had to install 185ft of line underground. . I installed a 50 plate exchanger, I was wondering if I went alittle small on that..The water coming into my plate exchanger is 180 and the oil furnace wont get above 155 the plate exchanger is in the return pipe on the oil boiler, just wondering if the aquastat high limit could be adjusted to bring up the temp or is that a bad idea??

Thanks
Steve

There is no words to describe my OWB,, Its been up and running for 3 weeks now, and not of drip of oil burned.. House is at a constant 73 and most of all the wife is happy!!!! Its a 400 series Heatmor, and would recommend one to everybody who is thinking about buying one..I dont know if all brands are the same, but this thing is idiot proof..LOL... The wife is idicted to the thing..She goes out a couple times a day to tend the fire. But I realize the newness will where off and I will be doing solo..Thats alright tho, as long as that 32-3800 heating bill disapears..

Or could I just cut the plate right into the supply? Or would this restrict the flow to much?
