The owners are really not active on the site...

Just because we do not post regularly does not mean that we are not actively involved in the site. We monitor it every day. Thanks to our great members, we have not had many violations - just a little spamming, but our filters appear to have that under control.  We are very impressed with the members of this site - thank you.

We have not been requested by Ridgewood corporate to set up a separate brand. How big are they? And where are they made. There are some manufacturers who prefer to not have their brand listed separately, and this brand has just been too small to warrant consideration. We'll look into it further.

Keep us posted.  We'll need at least a little more attention to this new brand (?) to add them to the Mfrs list, but the standard is low so keep us posted.  Thanks!

Hey Cooch - thanks for the great attitude.  I hope by now that everyone trusts the new owner and that there is no intention of abusing the trust everyone has in this site with ads and junk like that.  This is just a great place for straight info.  Our membership grows each day and the growth is accelerating.  We really appreciate your contributions and participation!  Keep up the great work - and there are many who are happy to see you back!

Site Suggestions / Spam Taken Care Of
« on: November 16, 2012, 10:55:32 PM »
As many of you noticed, some sort of spam bot hacked into the site today.  We got right on it and have been working on it for hours now.  We now have it all cleared off and should be ok now.  Our sincerest apologies to Cooch who suffered a fatal blow in this mess - one of my guys accidentally deleted his account along with many of the spambots.  It was unfortunately irreversible.  If anyone knows Cooch, please extend our apologies to him and invite him back!

We have increased the security levels and this should take care of future spammers, but we will remain vigilant.

Thanks to all of you for making this the premier site for outdoor wood furnace information.  We have an enormous membership and thanks to all of you, the information here is incredibly useful.  We have many new members each day finding us and realizing the amazing collective knowledge you all have.  We will continue to support you in every way possible!

Sorry, not sure how they hacked in.  All taken care of.  At least it should be!  Let us know if you see anything else.  Thanks!

Thanks for the input.  I'll hold off on the ads for at least a few months.  If we try any, and if they are a distraction or irritating, I would be happy to remove them.  One idea for ads would be a google banner that posts ads and shares the income with the forum.  Then, rather than asking forum members to send money to help with costs, all I would need to do is ask forum members to click on the banner ads!   :D

We'll worry about that later.  For now, I am just having a great time getting to know everyone.

Kudos to forum members trying to help tshepler.  So cool to have these things posted...no doubt your words of advice will live on and help many others in the future with similar issues.  Hopefully the google crawlers pick up on the specific problems/solutions and yield good search results when people search.

Nice to have a solution.  How does a chimney cap clog up?  Can you post a photo?

Hawken Energy, support only / Re: Pleased with Hawken?

This is an interesting thread.  I received a "Report" from "Puzzled Owner" stating that he was the creator of this post and that Hawken was very responsible in taking care of him and that he would like to have this post removed permanently.  He sounded like he regretted making the post too hastily felt badly for speaking ill of Hawken.

I did NOT remove the post!  I have not removed any posts and do not plan to do so unless I get reports of outright vulgarity or other blatant violations.  I hope those are rare.  It appears that "Puzzled Owner" figured out how to remove the post himself.

My question to you more regular members is this...if a member contacts me and wants me to remove their own post, should I honor such requests, or deny that request as I did here, and force them to explain themselves or figure it out on their own?  Is there an established practice for this?  By the way, I appreciate the way you all run this site.  It has been a real pleasure reading your posts and seeing how you all support each other.  This forum is very much a class act!
