Chimney Fires

Just wanted everyone's take on Chimney Fires. I seem to be getting the occasional chimney fire in my OWB. I'm assuming its because I've been burning quite a bit of green wood lately. Wondering other people's experience with chimney fires. Is there something I need to do or just let it burn itself out? Is it dangerous? I just let them go, it looks like a rocket about to launch.

Yea definitely due to the moister in the wood creasote building up.. I throw a bunch of cardboard very couple of weeks and let it burn under the chiminey port u can see a bit of a torch coming out I would also run a brush up and down it to clean it out.. I would say it's not the best thing for it just keep on it

It's likely not hurting anything depending on your model and location of install.  My boiler uses 1/4" wall thick steel pipe as the chimney, so it's not hurting anything to watch it burn.  It looks neat, much like a jet engine.

in 8 years I have yet to 'see' a chimney fire on mine, but every month or so I see the signs of one with ashes all over the snow.  Only worry I have is an ember lands on a wood pile and ignites.

I get one from time to time..I let it burn....Looks like a butane flame...result for a chimney fire..Clean stack!

 I would get them sometimes in my other stove, I had read someone else posted about cleaning the buildup in the stack and then they got better draft.  I got to wondering if my stack had buildup as I had never cleaned it. Just sold it and took off the stack, clean as a whistle.  Fire away

I love the chimney fire in mine. Helps lite up those dark nights when Im trying to load my stove  ;)
