RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / Water color?
« on: April 12, 2018, 12:34:34 PM »
Shut it down for the year. I was curious so I caught some of the water from the stove in a jar. It was yellow, like a light beer yellow.

Is that normal??

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Wi Fi Aquastat
« on: November 16, 2017, 07:27:39 AM »
Is there a Wi Fi aquastat on the market?

It would be handy to be able to track my temps from my phone. Could avoid some headaches if your phone could alert you if  temps were rising.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Replace Door Gasket, how often?
« on: March 17, 2017, 06:51:08 AM »
About had a boil over yesterday, happen to be home and caught it. Thank goodness.

How often would the door gasket need to be changed? Air was getting in from somewhere so I am guessing my gasket is bad. It's 3 years old.

Thanks

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Crazy Weather
« on: January 09, 2017, 07:17:04 AM »
High this past Saturday was 25, low 6. This Thursday the high is going to be 65, lows in the 50's.

Its been pretty mild so far this year, until this past weekend. I sure can tell a difference in wood use when its colder. I don't see how you guys up North keep up.

I live in Tennessee, looking at the long term forecast temps are looking pretty mild for March. It's got me thinking about shutting down in a week or so.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Ever miss a inside fire?
« on: February 18, 2015, 07:07:17 AM »
This is our first with a OWB, we have a Buck insert we used for years. So far I like the OWB, mostly because all the mess is outside. The last few days here in Tennessee we have had some snow and ice. Kinda missing the roaring fire in the house.

So do you ever miss the inside fire?

Hello All,

I live in the South so naturally wood usage around these parts is a lot less that you guys up North. When I was burning inside I would need 10 -12 ric for the year. This is my first year with an OWB so the jury is still out on my usage.

I read post where people talk about using 20 cords a year. That just blows my mind. I can not imagine the time/ labor it takes just to get one years of wood together.

I work on my stash as I have time in the evenings and weekends and it keeps me busy.  I really don't think that I could do 20 cords in a year.  How do you do it?????
