Damper stuck open
« on: November 25, 2012, 04:05:24 PM »

Newly installed H2 been using it about a month. The damper door is sticking open and caused water to boil and run out the overflow pipe.

Looks like the actuator sticking up.  Is it ok to put some oil or WD40 on it?  Or could there be something wrong with the actuator?

Thanks.

My H4 damper door stuck open yesterday for no apparent reason.  The actuator was down.  The door just stayed up.  It flops back and forth freely.

Hope it does not do it again when I am gone

I had the same issue on my hardy, which i recently repaired and made operational.  The solenoid was sticking and holding the damper open, which like you said, lets in too much air and causes overheating.  If i just lightly pushed the solenoid arm the door would fall back shut.

I asked the question in another thread and got the following suggestions:

1.  Spray the solenoid down with WD-40
2.  Add a couple nuts to the damper door to make it heavier

I hosed mine down with WD-40 and its been fine so far.  Has not stuck again yet.  If it sticks again then i will throws some nuts on top of the door.
