Fire Wood / Re: Wood Consumption vs. Application
« on: February 22, 2015, 12:06:31 AM »
2000 sqft. Log home heated to 73 with 900 sqft basement heated to 60 atop a mountain (windy) in western Virginia. Stove 80 ft. From home with homemade insulated lines and the stove is really similar to wood master (round firebox, heat exchanger tubes in top and smoke bypass rod for loading). Single line to dhw 20 plate then to 16x18 hx in faf. Burn 7-8 cords avg.

I'm in the mountains of Virginia just 30 minutes from the Greenbrier resort in white sulphur  WV. I figure I burn 7-8 cord a heating season on my 2000sqft. Log home.

Mines just 16 wide x 8 deep x 7'6" tall at the front 6'6" tall at the back. All pressure treated lumber and some metal roof I salvaged. All the lumber, screws and quikrete minus  the ruff  cut boards on the ends was under $150.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Chimney draft inducer
« on: November 07, 2014, 04:58:02 PM »
I just helped my brother in law install his cb  and it has a blower on it, even when it's burning good and you open the door smoke still comes out the door due to the large baffle at the back of the stove.  It's a little worse then on my stove  but it may be better than on the draft only models but if the fires burning good fan or not in my opinion  that baffle at the back is the main culprit for smoke and there's no bypassing that. But it shows its holding  the heat in the stove not forcing it out the stack.

Did the water come from a well as a possible source of rust? What kind of filter are you using? And yes I would do as slim says and drain and refill and keep doing it till clear and rust free.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: what size heat exchanger
« on: October 14, 2014, 07:33:58 PM »
It's easiest to buy an exchanger to fill up the space it will be placed in. To put a smaller one you will have to force the air thru a smaller area then designed which is not recommended, too many btu's will not not hurt anything, the fan will run less with too large an exchanger just don't go to small. 8)

Fire Wood / Re: Firewood prices
« on: October 10, 2014, 01:37:32 PM »
Last year is the only time I have bought wood and paid $550 for a tri-axle  load, approximately  9 cords so $62 a chord. Checked this year it's $675 from same guy so prices have went up and I'm 20 minutes  from a paper mill so demand must be up.

Heatmor / Re: new heatmor and having huge issues
« on: March 21, 2014, 01:33:35 PM »
I also was going to say call the BBB, i think heatmor has had more than enough time to make things right/correct. Without this site the BBB should have been called when the house was cold and  stove wasn't working correct, or maybe when you got a different stove than you though you  were getting. :-\

General Discussion / Re: EPA showing it's arse again
« on: March 15, 2014, 01:01:23 PM »
The epa is out of control! I recently got a survey from my congressman and one of the questions was, "Do you support or oppose a reduction in the number of employees at the EPA responsible for writing new regulations?" Of course I fully support a reduction as we have enough regs.

Plumbing / Re: Major temp loss with new install

Just to verify your stove is 150ft outside + 75ft in home to your hx? So 225ft each way for a total of 450ft round trip? What size plate exchanger? Definitely sounds like a low flow/air lock problem.

Equipment / Re: SAWS Wich ONE
« on: February 25, 2014, 06:53:47 PM »
Both saws specs being about equal and both quality saws, go out and hold them both. The one that feels better in your hands you buy! And trust me after cutting wood for a few hours you don't want to be holding a uncomfortable saw. I run stihls because they just feel better to me.
