My hot water heater is propane, so taking less then 5 minutes a day to throw 1 maybe 2 sticks on is worth it to me.

HeatMaster / Re: How much wood do you burn?
« on: March 21, 2014, 04:24:36 PM »
Mikect05 I'm running a 5000E with 3600 sqft and having no problem heating it to 72* all winter and the wife cheats at bath time and turns it up to 73.
I would have to say our house is fair on insulation because our windows are terrible vary drafty. I would have to say I'm at 8 to 9 cord with the winter we had this year, was around 7 last season compared to the 13 to 15 cord our fireplace insert took to heat the house for a winter. So as you can see BIG difference. Had the 5000E for 2 season now and love it, also heat our hot water and the 2 to 3 sticks it takes during the summer I heat year around with it for my water. Haven't used a drop of propane since Sept. of 2012.  :)

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: power outage
« on: February 15, 2014, 12:58:44 PM »
Trz we lost power last year for 2 days and had to resort back to the fireplace insert in the house for heat for that time. What I did was when my stove was getting ready to boil over due to the circular pump to the house not running I ran a extension cord to my pump and plugged it into a 12 volt 120 converter off my truck to circulate my water until it cooled it off and my coals burned out low enough to not have to worry about it anymore. Also I had just loaded it before we lost power and dug most of the wood out that I could.

Thanks to all !!!!!

It was the high temp shut off... Since the temps have warmed up here the shut off I had at 185 was allowing it to climb to 190, 191 before it leveled out after the shut off, Lowered my temp back down to 180 and running fine now. thanks for all your help. Forgot about the High Temp shut down.

Thanks All I'll check into your suggestions.

I'm thinking it might be the high limit forgot about that it has warmed way up here and i'm thinking it might be running by set point enough  to hit the high limit will watch and see were it finally settles down at.

HeatMaster / Blower & Solenoid Not Turning On
« on: January 09, 2014, 06:49:31 PM »
Having issues where the stove should be calling for the blower & solenoid to turn on and open and is not. I have the Ranco controller and have it set at 180 off with 15 degree on. Noticed tonight when i walked by it was at 163 and not running. Checked for codes on the ranco and saw none. Turned it off to reset it and nothing. Checked for power back at the blower and solenoid and had none. Then out of the blue it kicks on. any help is my Ranco going out??

HeatMaster / Re: Water Leaking From Fill Pipe
« on: November 16, 2012, 08:39:24 AM »
I would have to agree with willie I had the same experience with mine when I fired it up this spring where I had over filled mine. When it would get to the set point it would start running out of the fill tube where the water had expanded. Now at the lower end of my set point it shows about 3/4 full and at set point it shows full. I would leave the fill valve off and let it cycle for a few day's before I would tear into changing a valve out.

I was in the same boat you are in with not having a dealer close by. My nearest Heatmaster dealer was 120 miles away but had a CB 60 miles.
I'm a newbie with owb but I can tell you don't let the not having a HM dealer close by affect your decision, between all the help from the people on here and Heatmaster themselves has been great on getting me up and running. Did all the hookup my self, Been running now for about  3 weeks heating my dhw and finally got a little work out this weekend with temps dipping down into the low 30'. And love it..Witch ever way you go though don't think you can go wrong I just couldn't see eye to eye with the CB dealer and have had my eye on HM for about 3 years now.
