Anyone have one with a 20" bar? Does the saw like it?

I've had one for about 6 years with no problems at all.  I run a 20" bar on it.  Sometimes if I'm cutting on a large oak or other hard woods it seems like it could use a little more power but it still gets the job done just fine.  I plan on buying a 441 for next year and just running a 18" bar on the 290.

Ayuh,....    I've got a MS290 runnin' a 20" bar,...

Good for limbin', droppin' smaller trees,...

If I'm blockin' in the woodyard, I step up to my 044, or 460 magnum,...

The 290 just don't cut it, for blockin' hardwood,...

My MS362 does alright with a 25” bar so I’m sure a Farm Boss 290 would handle a 20” readily enough.

I have a 460 as well and its a beast.

Used it today for the first time in two years, only run aviation fuel in my saws. Dam thing fired right up and wanted to work.

I've been running a 290 for three years now as my only saw. I have a 20" bar on it. I've bucked up some 24" trees, but I'd rather not if it's possible. It does take a while. It's a great all around saw. My next two saws will be a 170-ish for limbing and a 440 for the big stuff. But, even with the two other sizes, I will still likely be running the 290 the most. It's a great saw.

I have my 271 that I have been running since I bought it, but theses bigger trees need a little bigger saw.

The 290 is a great all around saw and will cut whatever you need it to.  Onc you make the the jump to a 400'series stihl you will however wonder why you waited so long!

My 290 came with a 20" bar.  I now use a 18" for lost general cutting.  I use my 660 with a 20 inch bar to buck up main lengths that I have drug up in a pile in the yard.  Or if I have some stumps to cut

I have had one on the farm for 15 years. My dad bought it new. It ran great with a 20 inch bar. I bought a new one last year and I still grab the old one from time to time.

Have a 290 with 20 inch bar with a skip chain. It can handle anything just have to make sure you keep it sharp and let the saw cut the wood don't force it.

I've gotta' a 290 with 20" b/c combo, it's been a good saw, have only run a dozen tanks of fuel thru it, (it was pretty much new old stock when I came across it) I'll put an 18 b/c on it when I wear the 20" combo out and probably open the muffler up and re-tune it after this winters' flogging.
