I have a gasser and my firewood is cut to 24" but I always end up with pieces anywhere from 6" to 12" long.  I always toss them on top of what I toss in the firebox when I stoke it.  Heck, they burn and provide BTU's so toss in on top of what you normally put in.  Roger

Its kind of like the USPS commercial, "If it fits it ships" except its "If it fits it BURNS"  I see more problems with longer/bigger pieces bridging and causing issues

1st year I had mine, I burned only 16" wood and without any problems.  The last few years I've burned all the odds and ends leftover from selling wood without any problems.  As stated above, it's wood and it will burn it just fine.
