Hey Thanks atvalaska!  This is a pic of my DYI boot warmer.  It works very well!  I used 1" copper for the boiler run and 1 1/4" copper for the boot stacks.  Now I got a 24/7 boot warmer.

What year is your NCB-175?  I ran into this with some 2008 models.

I have also been using a dual probe wireless meat thermometer.  It works very well and I can set the alarms to low and high temp.  I like the low temp alarm incase I forgot to load the wood boiler or flip the blower switch back on.  I used aluminum tape to secure the temp probes to the supply and return lines with insulation.

I just hooked up a NCB175 to my house to try out for the year.  I am a NC dealer so I like to try different models to see how they compare.  I am heating a 2200 square foot house, DHW and a 600 square foot garage.  So far it is working great.  I did notice laoding a 10" round piece in the center and then split stuff around it seems to give me the longest burn times.  Also I have never had a bridging problem with the NCB updraft boilers.
I will be experimenting with the boiler all season so if I come up with any other modifications or practices I will let you know.

I ran #2 wire out passed my boiler to the wood shed for a 100 amp service.  I also ran 1" water line out for a water hydrant.

I use 4' x 4' hard wood pallets.  Works great and lets the air pass under the wood.

You must also keep in mind the circulation in the boiler itself!  I have actually heard the water boiling in the water jacket due to not enough circulation.

Its cherry wood.  I've got it all over my property and I live in Michigan.  Burns great after a year of curing.  I also make furnature out of it.

Soak the rope gasket with WD40 and it will stay soft a lot longer.  Otherwize, if the rope starts to leak I take high temp silicone and spread a bead on the area where the rope touches the flange then take wax paper and cover the silicone so it wont stick to the flange.  Close the door lightly so the silicone presses into the rope.  Let the silicone cure for 24hrs before closing the door completely.
Both of these fixes work very well!
