Natures Comfort / Re: Bottom Insulation again
« on: December 29, 2010, 07:38:51 AM »
I was in the process of making a bottom insulation kit for Natures Comfort.  The kit consisted of blue 2" foam board and 3" sheet metal angle to support the foam board.  I have installed this kit on many NC wood boilers and it does make a difference.  The problem is I would have to charge $100 or so to make any profit.

The foam board is cut into four pieces which are exact fit to the entire bottom of the boiler.  The 3" sheet metal angle is tucked under the outer sheet metal of the boiler and tucks under the foam board for support.

Here is what i can offer.

1.  $0  Drawing of foam board cut out
2.  $60  Foam board with template trace (customer must cut out traces)
3.  $80  Foam board cut to fit
4.  $150 Foam board cut to fit and angle supports (complete kit)

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Cloths dryer conversion
« on: December 08, 2010, 10:41:04 AM »
Well, The neighbor is donating his dryer for my next project.  It is Whirlpool electric dryer and I plan to hook up a rad to it.  Is there anyone out there who has tried this or is there a kit available?

I think all I should have to do is remove the electric element and build a plenum to channel the air from the rad to the blower.

I know this wont be as interesting as the guy building the outdoor wood gasifier, but it should be fun and I will take lots of pictures!

I would start by cleaning the chimney.  If the chimney isn't insulated it will collect creosote and close the opening.

Nice looking set up!!  I think that side arm will work perfect for you ;)  Nice touch on the diamond plating around the bottom.  I hope to have a GT-220 in the next couple of weeks.
Keep us posted on the performance once you get her lit up!

Fire Wood / Re: How long will Ash stand?
« on: October 15, 2010, 08:01:22 AM »
I would cut them down because I have noticed the dead ash trees seem to deteriorate very quickly in the weather.  If you cut them down, stack and cover them they will last a long time.  Plus the trees get very dangerous to fell after they have been standing dead for a couple of years.

Fire Wood / When is the best time of the year to drop trees?
« on: October 15, 2010, 06:23:49 AM »
I have noticed the ash trees around my house seem to be drier during the winter time vs. summer.  Are standing trees moisture content less during the winter season?  When is the best time to drop trees?

Hello Scott7m,

Nice to see another Nature's Comfort territory manager on this site.  I am a Nature's Comfort territory manager in the Thumb of Michigan.  The weather up here is just starting to get a little cooler and I am still working on filling my wood shed.

Sales are just now starting to pick up.  The warm summer seemed to put a damper on the sales.

If you are looking at a Shaver 250, you may want to compare it to the Nature's Comfort NCB-250.  The NCB-250 has a nice sized ash pan and a big well insulated fire box door.

Home Made / Re: grate spacing

I would stick with 1/2" or less pending on how many gaps there will be.  If you go 1" you will end up with hot coals dropping into the ash pan.

I shut the boiler down this weekend.  Forcast for Mid Michigan is high 80's.  Its time to start preparing for next winter.

Man I don't know?  With the door mounted on an angle upward?  I like the hair on my arms :)  I would have to see one in action before I commited to it!

The ground was covered with snow this morning.  I guess we're not out of the woods yet.
