GAS PRICES
« on: February 12, 2012, 05:07:08 PM »

So watching the national news (NBC)..They are saying it could be the highest ever at the pump by Memorial Day.. $4.35 for Boston, $4.95 Chicago. $4.75 for LA....I can't even imagine heating oil/propane prices next winter considering K-1 is $4.36 a gallon and heating oil is $3.79 + a gallon currently in NH....Def the best investment of owning the OWB..

Thinking horse and buggy!  Don't think my tired a$$ could stand too long in a saddle.  Plus, if I get a "buck board", the pick-up truck could sit for days.  But, the buggy would be a for the mrs. and Sunday-go-to-meetin, etc.  Good strong draft horse could skid logs for me too.

If gasoline is predicted to go that high, diesel will go over $5...Can't see why diesel costs more than gas??  I always heard it takes way more to refine gasoline?

And what wonderful choices we have for the up-coming presidential election!  I sure don't care for any of 'em!  Sooner vote for Mr. Ed, oh wait, I can't send him to Washington cause I'll need him to pull my buggy!!

The reason why I think that diesel cost more is because of demand.. Yes gasoline is refined more than diesel..But all your 18 wheelers, ships, const. equipment, trains etc. use diesel and hold hundreds if not thousands of gallons like ships on one fill up..

More road tax on diesel, maybe 15 cents.

Low Sulfur requirement also increased costs

I have heard a few different reasons why diesel costs more than gas. It supposedly costs more to refine ULSD than gas. I have also hear that they make more gas in Europe than they use so the excess gets sent over here and our diesel goes that way. I have no idea if it is true though.

It will have to get a lot more expensive than gas than it is now for me to switch to a gas vehicle. I like having a 7000 Lb truck that is faster than 90%+ of the cars around.

The main reason that Diesel costs more then gas is the demand for diesel in Europe.  It is refined here then shipped over there because the oil companies can make a lot more per Gal. example in the UK it it currently selling for $11.50 per gal.  gas is about $8.50  Diesel cars are big over there.     $ 11.00 Diesel would shut this county down for sure.

I was going through my Invoices, a lot of them were for Propane. It seems that the normal price over the last 3 years is $2.20.  But it has been over $3.

Before we moved here we always had Natural Gas, but I was told years ago Propane was a few cents a gallon.

I was reading an article about oil vs coal and how 80 years ago everybody was switching from coal as oil was much much cheaper.

At least I can get my own wood for the cost of running a chain saw and a bit of gas.

China and India are using a lot more Gas.
