adamant,i have the same set up.had it for about 3 years.works great. i strapped the one probe to the copper on my woodboiler side [smoker] and the other to my house heat side [food]. wire ties and pipe insulation over the probe. works great and the batteries last a long time. you can even set the alarm for low or high stove temp.

Hey adamant,
If you would post some pics of your setup when you get your new thermometer installed.  I would like to see how you hook it up.

Charlie - you have any pics of your setup?

is this the thermometer you bought?  Did you ever post a pic of your setup?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Wireless-Thermometer-Wood-Furnace-Temperature-guage_W0QQitemZ190262569595QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190262569595&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I tried to look at the first link but that is no longer a valid link.

I would like to get something to monitor the temp from inside.  I also thought about getting a wireless security camera.  Anyone use on of those?

Is the one you use made by Maverick?  I found this site and it looks exaclty the same, but found cheaper other places on line mainly cooking sites.  http://www.maverickhousewares.com/et73.htm

I ended up buying one of these off eBay a couple of months ago (if you look under cooking it will be cheaper), this past Saturday it saved me from my fire going completely out.  When I wake up I always check the temps so I know if I have to go out right away or if I can wait a while.  Saturday I noticed that temps were way down so I went out right away.  My wood had burned funny and what wood was left just wasn't in a position to catch fire again.  This unit is pretty handy.

What I did is I just wire-tied (or zip tied) the leads to my pex pipe in my basement.  I put it in my basement just so I knew the wireless signal would work all right.  I don't get an accurate reading since I just have it tied to my pex pipes.  With my setup when the woodmaster is at 170* my wireless thermometer will read about 143* I know that when it is about 160* it is about 135* or so on the wireless thermometer.  I am not getting an accuarte temp, but I can still monitor it and know what the temps are by these numbers.  Hopefully this makes sense, I will try to post a picture in a day or so.

Let me know if you anymore questions or this doesn't make sense.

What if you put the probe on the copper manifold of your HX where the pex is connected and not on the pex, should give a more accurate reading.

Finally got around to taking a couple of pics of my setup.  Again this is a simple setup and it is not accurate.  I will probably wire it different come spring but for now it gives me an idea of what is going on with the OWB temps.

This is the where the leads are, they are just zip-tied on.

Close up of one of the leads (Kind of blurry)

The unit that sets in my kitchen to tell me the temps:

Does anyone sell a remote unit that is accurate?  I've searched the net, but can't find anything that is really made to monitor a tank of water.  Maybe something from an industrial setting??

I had considered a digital temp gauge for a car.  Maybe a unit like Summit Racing sells.  It would need a 12volt power supply which wouldn't be a big issue.  A sending unit would go in a fitting in the stove, or even in a fitting near the HX.  I buried a low voltage wire from my stove to my house, for "just in case".  The gauge could be hooked to the sending unit with this wire, and the gauge put in the house.

Any ideas?

Yea I got one those to after searching hard for something high tech. I installed mine on the brass valves just entering the house don't know what my temp difference is for sure but can't be too far off. It's a nice piece of mind knowing the temp and I set the low alarm just in case someone forgets to feed the beast

I also used the same smoker temp wireless, it works great, I have alot the plumbing in copper. I used duct tape and pipe insulation.

Does anyone know if there a set that can hook into a computer to moniter temps

I'm thinking of getting this Hawken energy wireless monitor also does anyone have one.
