Title: Troy bilt 27 ton splitter
Post by: Belknap on October 17, 2015, 03:03:54 PM
My splitter has been working fine for 3 years.  All of a sudden It seems like it does not have any pressure in the hydraulics.  Not sure if it is a 2 stage pump but it will split wood that is clear but as soon as I get into some knots it will not split it.  Also there is not enough pressure to return the handle when you return the ram.  It seems to me to be the pump but if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it. I did check the fluid and it is fine.  Thanks

I would think on your system you should have a filter on it, most likely its on the return side though. It could have a screen on the suction side in the tank. Try both first as its the easiest solution, it may have a pressure relief in the system as well, not hard to check but you’ll need a pressure gauge and a way to tap into the pressure side of the circuit. Try before the valve first then if possible after, you could have a faulty valve thats bypassing pressure to the return or could even be a bad o-ring on the piston in the cylinder.

Thanks.  I was thinking I would drain the fluid and check the filter and screen.  I will see what I can do about a gauge.
