This is a late post but I did a ton of reading on this site and asked plenty of questions on which stove would be best for me. I know 7 people in the small town I live in that all have owb's and all 7 are the same stoves, woodmasters. They are a great stove but I wanted to do some research for myself and not just follow the leader. Thanks to everyone that posted on the Ridgewood, I choose the 6000 model, I feel it's the best bang for its buck and I'm all about simplicity. I extended my current woodshed over making it 24x10, I poured a slab and borrowed a forklift and set the stove right in the woodshed, facing out of course, read on here about opening door and sparks shooting out. I've been pretty busy this summer so I'm still working on the hookup. The badger pipe is in place and the electric is wired.,I just have to tie into my furnace in the basement and add a class A pipe out the roof of my shed. Should be hooked up soon. I ordered this stove the beginning of March and it was delivered late May from Michigan. Scott from here was a pleasure to deal with and very helpful, thanks to others on here that answered my questions. Craig from ridgewood is a class act also. I have a tree company dropping loads of wood off since February. I have so much wood I'm probably set for 3 years. Currently have about 15 cords cut n split and the rest is in rounds in a pile.,thanks again for the info from others on here, it really helped. Now I'm pumped for cold weather!

Congrats on the purchase. I to used this forum when I was researching OWB`s and that's how I found out about Ridgewoods and just  purchased one this summer myself which I should be finished hooking up this weekend.I agree with everyone Craig was very helpful.

Well my install is all completed with my new ridgewood 6000. Yesterday I finished the plumbing in my basement (hot water and FHA furnace ) . I filled it with water and started a small fire.  I threw on 4 pieces of large red oak and when I checked it today those 4 pieces were still together and not even broken up yet, for now I'm heating just my water with these warm temps here in NJ. Tonight I wired a new heat only thermostat directly on top of my existing thermostat. With help from this site it was super easiy jumpering that out. R to R and G to W , that simple. Of course I set it for high temp and right away the fan kicked on and started blowing hot air through the vents...what a great feeling ! I'm like a kid on christmas morning, My wife thinks I'm crazy.  Any tips for me as this is my first owb ? I've read the biggest mistake people make their first year is they add way to much wood, any suggestions from ridgewood 6000 owners?

What do you use to clean out the ash? I had a metal hoe welded up for raking the coals to the front, just curious what guys are using to get the ash out, and how often are you cleaning the ash out?

I'm the one with the black stove.... It was the first black one that Craig built. I just use a flat shovel for the ash. Every couple of weeks I take out a wheelbarrow load.
