Aquastat
« on: January 27, 2015, 07:38:09 PM »

Has anybody added an aquastat to their stove? I was thinking that this could possibly keep the stove from boiling over if the Love controller looses it's mind as mine did. The wiring would be pretty simple. From the relay output of the controller through the contacts of the aquastat to the damper door solenoid coil. Was wondering what you guys have used........

I think heatmor does exactly that..they use 2 aquastats in series

on some other models of stoves they use a "snap disc" some do not reset so if yoru stove overheats and the snap disc opens to disconnect the service it will stay open and you will have to replace it, but you know that the stove overheated and should maybe be looking for WHY. others (such as I used on my home builts) have a setting  such as 150 close (completes the circuit) and 190 open (cuts power to the solenoid and blower) this type of snap disc will re-set itself and you may not know you had an overheating problem

other models may use these types or different ways to make the stove safer. if you have a manufactured stove I am surprised they would sell one without this kind of safety device as "standard equipment"?

Sequoyah Paradise used snap discs on their later models like you suggest Willie, I still get calls once in a while where folks forget about the disc and are impatient about it coming back on, they can be easily jumped out by tying the 2 ends together to complete the circuit or simply removing the disc from the back of the boiler for a few minutes to reset them.

Slim, where are you going to mount the snap disc?

They just put it up against the water jacket, under the insolation, they used a couple of welded on tabs to hang it but duct tape works fine as well!

I have an unused port in my water jacket. I was thinking of using a Honeywell L4006A1967. It comes with a thermo well that should thread into the unused port.

I'm not sure on the stock number but if it breaks on temperature rise it will be fine!
