I couldn't wait any longer for the weather to turn cold, went ahead and started'r up yesterday morning. Figured 40's & 50's for daytime highs & upcoming 20's for overnight lows was close enough. Went off without a hitch.

I forgot how well this P&M maintains it's heat with very little wood in the firebox.

Have a couple nights of possible frost thru the weekend, highs back in the 70’s by tuesday, still not worth firing up.

In western Wisconsin here, I started a small fire yesterday morning because:

A. Well... It was cold out.
B. I had to much cardboard to get rid of.

But I'm not counting that as the "first fire" for the season.

I keep track of all my first and last fires on this forum so it's easy to find each year.
Feel free to add to it if you want.

First fire today. Probably not running for the season yet. Still need to finish up the radiant loop I've working on.

Not yet, been holding off as it has been warmer than usual. Got our first snow this weekend but supposed to be in the upper 50's tomorrow. My boiler is ready to go, and I have been cutting the rest of last years logs and ordered 20 more cords today when I ran into the wood guy in town. Propane cost me .99 cents this fall, so I am holding off for a few weeks on lighting my boiler.

I have been running since the second week of oct. and will not be turning off until May - had some warm days - so just using for hot water - but has started to get cooler now and furnace is on. Have 32 face cords so I'm good for the season

Delay in plans.  Got too busy on Saturday.  Actually looked at the forecast and found out in the mid 70's here next week.  Cold next weekend.  Shooting for Friday again.  Stay warm...

Fired mine up today for an experiment.

Measured out 250lbs of wood.

Started a fire and timed it, 5 hours and 45 minutes later the fire is starting to burn down.

Water is still ticking up a degree or two albeit very slowly now.

Wood boiler is at 149, the 450 gallon waste oil boiler is up to 132 thru a 50 plate FPHE.

Highest stack temp I’ve seen is 617F, has averaged around 500 degrees most of the time.

Will repeat when I have a gasser in place.

No other heat load on it other than heating the 450 gallons in the shop.

Been warm here until this week and it dropped below freezing at nights and 32 during the day. That and 4 inches of snow last night got me to fire it up today mainly to heat my garage and breezeway. Will be nice to have the hot water again, can't wait to shut my electric hot water heater off!
