wood in front burning up..
« on: February 27, 2017, 08:21:58 AM »

Hello guys, can anyone possibly shed some light on this issue, as of late, each morning the furnace is down in temp, prob around 140-150 and all of the wood is burnt in the front and the wood in back is still remaining, causing the furnace to be calling for heat, fan is on, prob for quite some time, routine is racking all the wood from back to front and add wood , problem solved.. but it should be just idling every morning at 180 this time of year, just wondering if anyone else had this issue and what they did to fix.. thanks alot

Sometimes we put a 11"x14" 1/4 steel plate on the front grate. This keeps the heat off the front door and gets the air back farther. good for a better coal burn too.

I've done this before also.  Works pretty well.

I'm running a 10,000.  When the ash pan is completely empty, my stuff up front burns up faster, and I load the front heavy.  As the ash pan fills up, the heavier burn migrates towards the back.  If you have a decent coal bed the entire length of the grates, it should eventually burn the stuff in the back.

The shoulder season, which we are ironically in now (IN FEBRUARY) is a little more prone to this.  My fire has gone out 3 times this season because it has been so warm.
