Hey all,
I have had a woodmaster 4400 for 5 years now...it has worked great so far.
I did some modification on the settings 2 years ago and put my top end temp at 185 and my lower end at 175, to get a little more heat into the house (heat exchanged into hot water baseboard...have 1 poorly insulated wall in the house)
anyway,
this year has been (up until now) unseasonably warm and snow-free
but on windy days my furnace was boiling over - temp was getting up into the 215 range, shutting off the snap disk and boiling out large quantities of water.
i replaced the door seal rope yesterday...thought that was my problem...used 1" rope (i believe the correct size)
then today it did it again - it has been excessively windy this year but no worse than in the past.

on a prior post on here a couple people mentioned a flapper above the door fan not sealing correctly
could anyone explain the process of checking that out and adusting/fixing?

i am also going to use the bucket over the flue method to check for an air leak now too.

but i'm thinking that flapper has tobe the culprit

blower assemblies taht just drop a flapper over teh intake of the blower don't always do teh real job of shutting off air. if you are using a squirrel cage blower there may be room for air to (due to the fact of the wind causing excessive draft) to be sucked in through the motor and around the shaft and into the stove from under the squirell cage. i have seen this on occasion but usually only on mild windy days as the amount of air is small

i have also seen on some models of stoves the flapper was "pushed open" by the blower, these leaked badly if the wind blew just right. the wind would blow the flapper open and the fire would actually roar out of control


good luck on finding your problem ( i think the bucket of the stack is a very good start.)

my damper is inside the lower box..the solenoid is above and pulls the flaper open inside the box. the flapper in teh box is on a 45 degree angle.

willie thanks for the suggestions.
the problem was the rubber flapper...broken off
went to my dealer...had one ready for me $15, and i am off and running.
he informed me that OWFs are now illegal in NY...gotta love gov't

My blower on my woodmaster 4400 just died.  Once I took it off I put my hand in the rectangular opening that draws the air through and discovered a bunch of ash/small pieces of creosoet.  Is this normal to have?  I shopvaced it out the best I could but am worried it will fill again over time and cause deterioration of the bottom of the door.  Thank you for any advice you can offer.
