General Discussion / Re: Home Electrical Question

There are all sorts of rustic style, low voltage lights available. Use your Google-Fu. Flush mount and pendant style. I think it would be easy to disguise some 18 ga. wire to run along your beams and even make a drop down the face without being very noticeable.

My NCB-175 will do this if it over-fires. I don't think you have any more water in the boiler, it's just running longer in this colder weather, making the water temp ioncrease. Next time it's overly high check your water temp. I bet you're a few degrees higher than normal. Likely just normal water expansion as the water temp increases.

I have a NCB-175 and am burning coal. Lots of upgrades. Homemade grate, different aquastat, added firebrick. I'm burning anthracite. Works well but takes a lot of dialing in.
Use the search function and you will find some info.

Equipment / Re: Chainsaw oils both bar and 2cycle

I use whatever 2 cycle I find on sale and have been know to mix my TSC bar oil with used motor oil. Been doing it that way for 30 years. Never had any problems.
The only time I worry about oil brand is in my wet clutch motorcycles. Nothing worse than friction modifiers on a clutch...

Titan 60" grapple arrived yesterday. Looks to be well made and heavy for the $1250. In 10 min had a few logs out of the woods and piled up that would have taken much longer if i had to drag them. Also moved a couple rocks that I had just pushed out of the way earlier.

I see this saving my old battered body. Less on and off the loader, hooking and unhooking, etc. Who know how many uses I will find for this!

I've burned all anthracite and also a combination of wood and ant. Best scenario is a large piece of wood on each side of the round firebox and a short piece across the front to keep the coal from rolling forward. a nice thick coal bed in the middle, maybe 6-8" deep and I can routinely get 24 hour burn times. I will de-ash at 12 hours. Recovery time after adding 30 pounds of freezing cold is longer than plain wood, but it will come back...just don't touch it, no matter how bad you want to!

My routine every 12 hours is to shut the fan off, empty the ash pan, de-ash the coal bed and add 2-3 coal shovels full of mixed stove and nut size coal. Usually every 24 hours I will add 3 more pieces of wood to reform the coal bed.

In the last 5 months I have used about 1.5 cords of wood and 2 tons of coal. Makes my old broken body very happy!
