Just finished mine 21 feet of stack and boy did that increase my wood usage! working on moving to coal

Holy frights!!!  If you guys have to clean the chimneys, how on earth do you go about it?

Just curious how did it increase your wood usage because of your high stack?..
My guess would be that there is an air leak (at the door or fan, etc) and the longer chimney is increasing the draft enough that it pulls more air in while idling.
If there is smoke coming out the chimney now while it is idling and wasn't before that is the extra wood leaving.  lol

Rsi I thinkyour right what is now happing is that the extra draft is causing the flapper on fan to open during my idling times. thinking that i might angle the fan and flaper to get gravity to help me.

i need to extend my chimney not by 20 ft but something like maybe 6 to 8 ft,problem is it measures8 1/4 inside and 8 1/2 outside . i cant seem to come across anything like that other than a piece of cast water pipe from like the town water line but its to dam heavy. :bash:
