Central Boiler / Re: Maxim Pellet Furnace
« on: December 23, 2012, 10:22:31 PM »
We had a Harmon indoor pellet stove in a house we owned from 03 through 05. The house was a little less than 3000sq. ft.  I just looked it up we used around 2.5 to 3 ton a year and the price was anywhere from 175 to 200 a ton. But I think in 2006 they went up a lot. We did see them at Menards in South Bend in November for 168a ton thats the lowest I had seen them ever in our area!!

I'm 57 and I love my Legend as much as anything I own. I know the day is coming when it's not going to be near as much fun as it is right now. My knees hurt alot. I have a friend that lives in Ohio that is C.B. dealer. He thinks I need a Maxim. Maybe he's right. Either that or a wood/coal boiler. I could mix it a little and not use near as much wood. I also have to keep in mind I live in Indiana so if I would stay with all wood it would (try saying that real fast) have to be a gasifier!

Tanner.
I don't remember for sure but I think what is on the stove new is Silkirk pipe. I called my dealer and got a price for a 4 ft section to add to what came with the stove to make 6 ft total. It was really expensive. So I went to Menards and got two 3 ft sections for less money. Menards carries Supervent pipe I screwed out the Silkirk and the Supervent screwed right in.

    Scott,
You know I think they have had trouble with cement insulation on the inside of the door. Make sure that is all in place and some of it has'nt fallen off. My cement insulation has some small cracks in it but it is still all in place.

tanner,
I called my dealer to get a price on adding on to my stack. From the price he gave me to get to 6ft. I went to Menards and bought 2 3ft. sections for less money.

Dan,
Legend has a wood/coal combination furnace with a grate. With it the air would be supplied from under the grate up through the fire and it has a few more btu's than their biggest wood boiler if that is what you are looking for.

I'm not a dealer but I've had a Legend since 09 and love it!!!

I liked the P&M and was going to buy one but when I called them they gave me a price (over the phone). I told them I'd take it and that was on a Friday. On Monday they called and said they couldn't honor that price and that the furnace had in fact gone up in price. So I went with Legend and have been very happy!!!!

      Good Luck,
                       Mike

Now is the time to get it bought, and get installed!!!  You will be glad you did!!!

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Stack Question?
« on: July 30, 2012, 06:38:57 PM »
It probably depends on what your insurance would tell you, how close to put it to your house. Mine is about 30 ft.  And I think what Jerkash is saying about it being closer to your garage is that it is going to take the same amount of insulated pipe if you are going to put  your furnace between your house and garage so keep it farther away from your house (for smoke reasons) and closer to your garage.

Thanks RSI,  I shut my pump off and put in about a quarter to a half of a tank of water in boiler and shut air intake off as tight  as I could then I shut off  the outbound and return valves then it quit leaking. Have went out to check the temp 3 or 4 times and it is staying around 120 . Tomorrow I will have to replace the valve.
