Heatmaster MF5000... Just sprung a leak
« on: January 27, 2015, 11:45:43 AM »

Just went to check on my 2 month old heatmaster MF5000... Noticed water on the ground.. Then looked up at the water level float.. Level has dropped from 80% to 5%...I open the ash tray.. It was full of water.. Perfect spent all my money on this boiler and has sprang a leak in just under 3 months... What should I be doing at this point.

Find the leak.  Then contact Heatmaster Warranty service.

Just a thought, you say 5%.  Does that mean your float ball is still floating?  If it is still floating, then you don't have a leak depending on how long it's been like that.  That ball float floats on the very top of the water jacket.  If you are leaking, that indicator should be hanging on the standpipe.

On the Guage full to empty can be as little as 15 gallons depending on the stove/model.

I'd like to hear much more about this in regards to how this came about?  If there is a leak rest assured heat master will Deft take care of you.

Water in the ash drawer can common in certain weather/wood conditions.  But if your Guage is still floating you haven't lost that much water, leaks generally start very slowly so I'm interested in learning more about what may have happened

Sounds like condensation if the float is still up.  Black water all over the place.  Happens from time to time.

Like the guys said, contact your dealer first, ask him to assist you in finding the leak, I highly doubt that it's the boiler but nobody is perfect and with the dealings that I have witnessed, if it is a bad boiler, they will take take care of it!

It's been 24 hours.. Since I noticed the leak... At that time I filled the boiler back up.. To the full float level.. Now a day later I'm at the half way mark.. I have pulled out the ash pan.. Water seems to be collecting in the back left hand side of the ash pan channel.. On my way in to talk to my dealer this afternoon

It could be a leak

Keep us posted

If however you fill the stove at max temp  and check water level at a lower temp it can move a good 2-3 inches on the float.

Def keep us posted

I thought so as well at one time but I think time, patience, a visit to Grayson and a few Buds helped our relationship. Let' face it, at one time we could have been considered competitors, now look at us, we both work for the same company  For the record, I never did feel that way!
