General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Good Buy.
« on: August 26, 2009, 07:22:34 PM »
I picked up a 2-year old 100gal. A.O. Smith water heater at a school auction the other day for $70. After I won the item, the school manager told me it cost the school $9000.00 in 2007. It has 1 1/2"water inlet/outlets on both sides and on the top. I plan to install flatplate exchangers on both sides and  run water in/out of the top. Downside,, it's 6 1/2 ft. tall and  very heavy.

Plumbing / Flatplate!!
« on: June 12, 2009, 07:58:19 PM »
Anyone have any ideal what size flatplate exchanger I would need to supply the cold water inlet side of a water heater. I have a 6-plate hooked to the drain and pop-off location like a side-arm, but i do run out off hot water after 2 baths. Been thinking for awhile about adding another exchanger to the inlet of the waterheater. Any ideals????

Testing water per the central boiler test kit.. Ph 8.0 nitrite at 38. Drained 10 gals and refilled. Nitrite was 32 and ph was 6.. Book says it needs to be ph of 8.5 and nitrite level of 15-20. Main problem now is low ph with higher than normal nitrite. Any ideals........????? ???

Central Boiler / Heat Exchanger Pump??
« on: December 31, 2008, 06:37:35 PM »
I have the flat plate exchanger on my water heaters..  Wondering if anyone thought about or had  ideals on putting a recirculation pump next to the inlet of the exchanger.  Thought it might enable the water heater to keep up with hot water usage. ???

Central Boiler / First season burning a Central Boiler!!
« on: December 07, 2008, 03:33:40 PM »
Very happy so far!!  I'm heating 1900sq. ft. home and an 800sq. ft. shop. Both buildings "WERE" forced air gas furnaces and gas water heaters.  My boiler is the 5036 feeding through thermopex underground pipe to flatplate exchangers at the water heaters. From there to the furnace exchangers. Greatest temp. loss of water returning to the boiler has been 8 degrees with outside temp. of 17 degrees. Have had no problems what so ever. Wife is happy!!   with the warmer house..
